Speaking of Camo

Just for some giggles please no bashing.

I have been here thinking about this ( I know it is dangerous for me to think):D.

But why did you purchase the camo you are currently wearing?
What sort of warranty does your current camo have?

I will start and as everyone knows I am a BIg fan of ASAT and try to enlighten people whenever I can.

The reason I wear ASAT is simple because it works and works in every situation I have been in. Over the last 40 odd years of bow hunting I have tried just about every camo pattern on the market and nothing works as well as ASAT for me.

Now I can call ASAT and actually speak to one of the owners Chuck Pensyl can you guys call your favorite camo company and speak to the owner.

ASAT comes with an unconditional money back guarrantee that if you dont see more game in 1 full year of purchase while wearing it they will give you your money back no questions asked.

With the 3d suit ASAT is the only one that has the pattern on the under mesh so on those windy days you are still covered.

I am a little rushed for time now as I have to get ready for work but will probably post more later.

So come on guys and remember to play nice;)

I am using ASAT pretty much because of one person! Matt/PA.

When I was looking for camo, he suggested the ASAT and he has ALWAYS led me in the right direction, so I looked into it and decided to give it a try! Now, I can't imagine wearing anything else!:D

I bought it because it was the exact opposite of what everyone here on the forum has been suggesting.....:D[8D].

RE: Speaking of Camo

I used to get busted alot wearing the old Advantage so I switched to MOBU. That was a little better especially the later in the season it got. Still got busted a bit probably becuase it was too dark. After seeing all the pictures of it in use on their website and seeing how well it broke up the outline of the hunter. And after reading all the stories of "Look through" here on this site. I decided to ask for it this year for christmas I got an ASAT 3D leafy suit from my g\f. I only got to wear it a couple times but I was able to walk up on a couple does within 30 yards. When they did spook I believe it was becuase I stepped on some bean stubble and it snapped. This year will be my first full year using the suit and I can't wait. I'm even gonna use it for spring turkey season. It's a great warranty that ASAT has but I don't think I'll be needing it!

Woodland Camo

I have a ton of "woodland camo" from an earlier career (regular weight, tropical
weight, wet weather gear, cold weather gear and chemical protection gear).
Plenty of pockets and all in good shape -- can't justify extra funds for more camo!

ASAT, because Ausie told me too!

Actually because you ordered it for me.

But why did you purchase the camo you are currently wearing?
Cause it was there / good price / I like the way it looked / thought it made me look thinner;)

What sort of warranty does your current camo have?
Guaranteed to fade and not matter:)

The reason I wear ASAT is simple because it works and works in every situation I have been in

same reason I use mine:D

RE: Woodland Camo

Most of us wear some sort of camo when we go hunting. Like some people, I started using military surplus because it was cheap, then I ordered some ASAT from Brigade Quartermaster, That stuff went away for awhile and I started in with Advantage, then went on to Hardwoods 20/200.
Found the ASAT guys at the Harrisburg Sportsman's a couple of years ago and went hog wild. Bought everything, BDU pants, hats, gloves, light jacket, and finally the leafy suit.
Since then I have gotten rid of every other pattern of stuff I had. About 2 big Rubbermaid totes full, sold off or donated.
Maybe it's just me, but after you "get it",no other camo makes any sense.
So I am just wondering of the folks out there that use ASAT (or other forms of "open" pattern camo), how many of you would ever switch back to the "sticks and leaves" type camo?

I bought it because I can get a set of Camos (Pants and a Shirt) for under $50.00.

It may not be the ASAt or the Predator camo that everyone on here speaks so highly of, but hey, it's camo, it breaks up my outline, it's Realtree. :D

I don't think that this is that unusual. We will spend $1000 on a bow, $100 on a dozen arrows, $300 on a tree stand and then skimp on what may be the most vital link...our camouflage. To me this is like having a $1400 dollar rifle and feeding it $.25 ammo.
If you have taken the time to do the research, to own the best gear, why would you skimp on the camo?

I think if you do some side/side comparisons or look at some of the other posts around here you may find out something that may surprise you.[&o][:o]

I'm in the process of buying new clothing actually. I based my search on quality first. Also, customizing to my needs. I like being able to add pockets, different liner options, detachable hoods, etc.... That's why I'm settling on Grey Wolf clothing. The guy who owns has bent over backwards for me to ensure I was ordering exactly what I wanted. He sent many, many samples of material, insulations, wind/rain barriers for me to choose.

Yeah, its pricey, but clothing to me is as important as the bow I carry with me into the woods.

Oh yeah, its comes in Predator camo!

Last week Davidmil and I went hunting. We were about 50-70 yards apart. When the sun came up, all I could see in his tree were his MO boots and booney hat. Those two things really stood out; but, the rest of him in ASAT was well....like it wasn't there.

He said that my ASAT (which was head to toe) looked great - meaning that he couldn't really see me.:D I always knew I looked better than him.:D:D:eek::eek:[:-][:-]:)

RE: Speaking of Camo

But why did you purchase the camo you are currently wearing?
Because I wanted MT050 uninsulated goretex scentlok and only had advantage timber or new MOBU to choose from:)

I will have a 3-D style suit to wear over top of it this fall.

RE: Woodland Camo

Len.....you should make Dave wear his ASAT all the time then. Especially the face mask.[:-]:D

I knew you guys would like it, glad to hear that it is working out well for you.

RE: Speaking of Camo

I'm wearing my ASAT suit mainly because it was free. My dad and I were hunting about 200 yards apart in some thick stuff, and he felt sorry for me because I was wearing Realtree coveralls (that didnt quite cover all, but thats a different story), and could make a distinct faded blob of me. So I got ASAT for Christmas, and I'll be giving it an extensive test this turkey season (with bow), and during deer season. :D

RE: Woodland Camo

Matt:

I haven't finished evaluating this ASAT stuff yet. It looks good to Dave and me, but we only have 'dear' eyes and not 'deer' eyes.:D I've been spending way too much time with him.[:o][:@]:D

I'm very excited about it because he has been seeing and NOT spooking a lot more deer than me for about as long as he's had that ASAT. I knew he was seeing more deer and he kept telling me that they didn't spook; I just hadn't figured out why. I've seen him in his stand and he moves around a lot more than me. I know that my BO is a contributing factor for not seeing more deer and I'm hoping that the ASAT counteracts this problem.:D:D

RE: Woodland Camo

This will sound strange to most, but I saw and killed more deer in my old Treebark suit, and the older it got the better it seemed to work. Don't have it anymore, but love my Predator suits. May give ASAT or Cabelas Outfitter series a try this fall, but my Predator will be ready.;)

Mossy Oak and Realtree just look more like a blob during some situations and depending on the light, although in certain circumstances they work well.

alright boys, where is the best place to purchase the ASAT? As I should have a little cash from a recent 3d tourney.:D thanks for enlightening me.

RE: Speaking of Camo

Because some of use really believe it makes no difference when up in a tree. Sit still don't stink.:D

And I personally would rather have five "cheaper" camo outfits, clean and ready to go than one "magic" camo outfit that I have to rush around keeping clean inbetween hunts.

ASAT looks nice - I am sure it works very well..................but I have killed a few with faded Mossy Oak..........and am certain that my camo is not hurting my chances.

I own several army charcoal filled chemical warfare two piece suits (Get them from Gary-Sportsmans Guide). Wear shorts under it early in the season, more when its cooler weather. Don't wash em'. I just leave them on the wash line on a rainy day, toss them in the dryer. I've used all sorts of camo including a long sleeve ASAT as my outer garment on a warm Texas afternoon. I can honestly say I have not been busted, not even once, while wearing the chem suits. Bowhunting since 1963, used WWII camo back then.

I bought predator camo when I first started bow hunting on the advice of other bow hunters at the proshop.

I have predator fall grey and predator deception. It has worked well with being on the sage brush prairie or the pine timbered mountains. I have some other camo that I got on sale but primarily I wear my predator camo with good results.

None of it is sent loc and only one pair of pants are waterproof.

Nothing but Fields-Edge for me Thanks!!! :D

After the last two years waring it...Ive been 5 times within 15 yards of 6x6 bulls and them never knowing i was there. Then last Nov.22 2003 my friend harvested a 8x6 Non-Typ mule deer that scored net P & Y 191 6/8 and is pending # 1 in Washington State for archery. We dont Tree stand hunt here out west ....We hunt on the Ground and stalk

Ohhhh.. probably because I've had deer walk within feet of me without knowing I was there while wearing blaze orange , while wearing jeans & t-shirt , while wearing red & black checked wool , and numerous other ensambles over the years!
Any other questions?;)

RE: Speaking of Camo

I buy King of the Mountain, or sleeping indian design wool. Expensive but will last for ever. If you rip them they fix them (K O T M). Warm, wet or not. Will never wear them out. Pattern doesn't matter to me. If a deer looks up 30 ft and sees me in a pine tree... He can live. i payed a LOT of $ for my set of clothing. With that said in total i have spend less then 100 dollars/year on clothing and boots. Thats not bad because it never has to be replaced. SCENT control is OVERRATED. Whats the point? If you don't play the wind you are still missing animals. You don't filter your breath, you don't skimp on the chili the night before a hunt. I know this goes against everyone on this post. I did my own studdies for 3 years, i used extreme scent control. I spooked .5/10 deer. The 3 years before and the 2 years since i have spooked .6/10 deer. I save the $ and the peace of mind of not worrying about the scent on my clothes. Just my thoughts...I do it different then most people. With that said Scent control can never hurt your chances... unless you don't play the wind.

Well you don't need 2 bows a day, every day, to hunt with in the hot months of the season. ;) I like the looks of the ASAT but I own $700+ worth of typical hradwoods camo that I have accumullated for all different types of weather and conditions and it would take many more times that in ASAT$$ to make wholesale replacements. I will buy an outfit this summer to try out though and I'm sure I"ll like it.
