Brace Height ????
 

My ? is... My bow's bh is 7 1/8 and is a real easy bow to shoot. I realize i need to go shoot different bow's before i buy, But wanting to move up to more advanced level. Can you tell me the differences say from 7-6.5 and 6.5-5.5, Are they more difficult to shoot? Thanx for your input......fishon01

fishon01, first, welcome to the board! As to your question, there are several variables that also influence how shootable a bow is for a particular archer, but a definate rule of thumb is, yes lower brace height is more difficult to shoot accurately. I have shot bows from 9" brace height down to 5" brace height. I have some bows with a brace of 6.5" that shoot fairly accurate. Any lower than that, I have never found a bow to be what I would call accurate. Lower brace height is generally faster, but at a price.

I'd leave well enough alone. I've owned 5", 6", and 7" BH bows. Now all three of mine are 8". JMHO.

Hey there fishon01.I haven't been involved in bowhunting near as long as some of the people on the board,but I have tried to be a good student,in order to become better at it.What I have read and been told by some reaaly good bowhunters(and great archers)is that 7" is a good medium when talking brace height.As brace height increases,a bow GENERALLY,is more forgiving of minor flaws in our form.When it decreases from this point,it USUALLY is a little less forgiving.There are trade-offs of course.As was mentioned earlier,lower braced bows are usually speed machines that can really smoke an arrow.For an archer that has flawless form(definitely not me!),this is great.Personally,I'd rather have a little less speed,and a little more forgivness in my bow of choice,and then try to make my bow shoot as quietly as possible.

The other guys pretty much have this covered but there was something I wanted to address in your original post.

When you stated that a lower brace height bow was more "advanced" I read it as "superior".......if that wasn't the case then I apologize but I have to say that a low brace height bow (under 7/6.5 inches) is not superior in any way, other than possibly speed/ke, to a larger brace height bow when all else is equal. In fact, if we look at forgiveness, accuracy and overall practicality ratings then a low brace height bow might be considered inferior for the average shooter, again, when all else is equal.

Thanks for the reply's. Pabowhntr i did'nt mean that they were superior in anyway.I apoligize for stating that wrong:). What i meant was that i had heard or read, that a bow like the bk11 was a bow for the more advanced. I'm assuming from the lower brace height. I'm looking for a faster bow<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>. Last year was my 1st for bowhunting, and well you know how the addictions go. Gotta get another bow <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>......thanx fishon01

I understand what you are saying...but I think that sometimes folks misinterpret certain words or phrases. I think we are both on the same page here...:)
