Yep, a pass through is the preference today for a better blood trail. It used to be they wanted the arrow left in the animal to continue cutting for a faster kill. Heck, many Indian hunters would run the animal down after the killing shot had been made. The key phrase there is "Killing shot".

Pass through for sure. 5 Shot said it best. Not only will a complete pass through give you a better blood trail, it will also save your arrow.
