RE: A few of my mount pics
Thanks! On the right side his G2 was about 9 and his G3 was 10-1/4", the left side G2 was 7-1/4 , G3 was 9-1/4. His left brow tine was broken off. I still like him though;) He was 217 lbs. field dressed. I was very lucky on this deal. I called my taxidermist how much it would be for a full mount ( this was in 1998). He told me about $1000. I mulled it around for a few days and decided to just go ahead and do a chest mount. If he would have said around $800.00 I would have done it. I do all my own butchering, so the day that I was getting ready to butcher him , as a matter of fact I was just getting ready to start the first cut up around hsi back to cape him, my daughter came out with the phone and said I had a phone call. I told her to ask who it was so I could call them back. She said itwas Steve your taxidermist. The first thing he said was, tell me that you didn't buthcher your deer yet. I told him that I was actually just getting ready to cape it out. He told me that he had talked to a guy that I worked with who stopped to see the buck and that it was really a big buck. He said he would make me a deal. I f I would allow people to come and look at it at my convinience if they wanted to see it, he would do it for $650.00 !! I about fell over. I said buddy, if you would have called a few minutes later it would have been too late. Now he charges $1100.00 fora full mount so I was pretty lucky!! Healso did the half mount and the other buck you saw. Well actually he does all my stuff now. He did a real nice job on my fox and is doing a coyote for me now. They are all bowkills by the way. I only bowhunt.

RE: A few of my mount pics
Epuller, they are actually in the basement. We have a full finished basement with a really big living room and then this good size room off of it so I was lucky enough to get my own whole room to have a trophy room. The whole basement is done in the barn siding so it is really outdoorsy, then the upper floors are modern so we have the best of both worlds. She lets me do what ever I want in my room as long as there are no "dead animals" in the other areas of the house. My wife is really cool about my bowhunting addiction ( besides she bowhunts some herself) so I am a very lucky man.
I forgot to post it in the first post, but everything that I put in the mounts scenes came from the exact spot that I got each of them. In the corner half mount scene you can see the two saplings that are rubbed. I actually watched him rub those a few days before I got him. Then there are 2 fenceposts with some barbed wire hanging down between them on each side,( you can't see them that well on the pic) they came from where he entered the woods at. The farmer told me to go ahead and take them, he is a really good friend. On the full mount, if you look in front of him you will see a scrape with a part of a branch in it, plus some corn picked corn stalks etc and then a bunch of leaves and stuff. well I shot him on the edge of a woods and picked corn field. I watched him make a scrape for a few minutes right before I drilled him. He broke that section of the limb off and it was laying in the scrape so I saved it and put it in the mount. I actually took a mounted deer hoof and made the scrape in the dirt on the base so it would look more realistic. There is also a fencepost in that mount also. The dirt is real dirt out of the field behind my house ( de wormed of course:D) with a bunch of elmers glue mixed in. The glue makes the dirt dry real hard but doesn't change the color at all. I really had alot of fun making the bases and the scenes. I will post a few pics of the 2 that are closer so you can see the details a little better. In the corner mount the fence posts have the 2 small racks sitting on them. They really blend in with the barn siding . I am glad you guys enjoyed seeing them. |

RE: A few of my mount pics
Dang, even the fence posts grow antlers in Ohio!!!
How far did that buck (the one above your bow rack) run before succumbing to the arrow thru the antler?? [8D] Just kidding. Great looking deer!!! |
RE: A few of my mount pics
Very nice. I would not apologize for sharing those works of art, both by mother nature and your talented taxidermist. Hats off to you as well for the obvious hard work you put into your hunting. Very nice.

You must not be married. |
RE: A few of my mount pics
Actually I am married. I just am blessed with a great wife and teenage daughter who fully support my bowhunting addiction and love the outdoors themselves. Of course their trips to the mall balance things out pretty well:D
