Default Should I Practice with Broadheads or with field tips?????

I am 12 yrs old and i live in NY. They are most likely going to change the law for bowhunting big game in NY from 14 to 12. So i am getting ready. I am shooting a Browning Micro Midas III, 40 pounds, 24 inch draw length. I am shooting fixed broadheads 75 grain Thunderheads, Carbon Express Thunderstorms 30-50.

Out of curiosity what would you be hunting? Field points and broadheads group different for me so I would suggest practicing with broadheads.

I practice with field tips and tune my broadheads to groups with the field tips. I then shoot broadheads mostly during the month preceeding opening day.

If I were you I would practice with field points for awhile then like a week or two before the season starts start shooting your brodheads. If your broadheads and field points shoot the same, great. But on my bow I had to adjust my sight for using fixed blade broadheads, so I just did what I suggested to you in the begging. But I was getting tired of my field tips and broadheads shooting differently, so I switched to mechanical heads and I love them. They shoot the same as my field tips so I dont need to adjust my sight anymore. Plus I know they work good on deer cuz this year was my first year using them, and I got a shot at a nice 8 point and took him at about 10 yards. After the shot the buck only ran about 40-50 yards and dropped within sight. Good luck.

A good paper tune along with an arrow that has enough fletching drag to counter the planing effect of broadheads.

I find that my Muzzy's and/or Thunderheads fly the same as my field points, therefore I only target pratice with my field points.

A 40# bow with a 24" draw will not produce enough energy to shoot mechanical broadheads. If I were you I would shoot feild points untill a lot closer to the season. Shooting broadheads for practice gets to be very expensive because they will chew up a target about 10 times faster than feild points. The 75 grain thunderheads sound like a good choice for your set-up.
