I would definetly practice with the fieldpoint's and buy broadheads the same wieght as your fieldpoints . I would only use your broadheads when getting ready for the hunt just to see where they are shooting so that if you need to tweek your bow a bit. Sometimes you need to make some minor adjustment's to get your broadheads to fly closer to your fieldpoint's.

I would NOT go after bear with that set-up,the draw weight is not enough in my opinion.

First of all, at 12 years old, I truly hope that you have a mentor/adult to give you guidance. I also hope that NY requires a Hunters Safety Course and even a Bowhunters Safety Course.

That being said, good tuning will get your BHs and FTs hitting in the same hole. Changing your sights to accomplish BH impact is as much of a bandaid as some use when they go to mechanical BHs. Your draw weight, however, would be nowhere near enough to use mechanical BHs. Please don't even consider their usage. The Thunderheads are a fine choice and Muzzy BHs would be an equal choice.

Good luck and keep us posted on you developments.;)

How do you tune them to shoot the same?
There are entire books devoted to that alone.

But, sometimes it can be as easy as slightly twisting my nock one way or the other.

Also, you can move your rest left or right to get a good group.

I have found that a good tuned bow from the get go will not require much tweeking if any to get broadheads to group with field tips. If you are noticing a huge difference in impact, then you probably don't have a good tune to begin with.

I would suggest you look into Larry Wise's book on tuning, check on amazon, you can probably find a used copy very cheap.

I shoot mechanical broad heads; I find that they shoot the same as my field tips. My brother shoots Thunderheads and says that they shoot a little differently than his field tips.

len, i already took my courses for hunter safety and bow... my dad would be coming along with me hunting.. i didnt even consider mechanicals because they rob your arrow of energy...

Squirrel,

Correct me if I'm wrong NY also makes you qualify with your bow before you can bowhunt.
