New to bowhunting Help
 

Hello all I'm new to this and have several questions, First to Shoot with a trigger or Fingers? I've tried the trigger and am a Little leary because I feel i have no Control. Yet With the fingers I feel more Comfortable. I figured this much Give Myself a season with out the trigger and see what Happens. I've been told that What makes me feel omfortable is what will work. First welcome to the best site on the net,you hit on a key issue when you mention comfort,if you are not comfortable with any part of you setup,you will not be at your best.Personally I like my release for compounds,but it may not be for you. Try as many diffrent styles of releases as you can no two will feel alike,you might find one that feels right,if you don't stick with fingers. I have a Cobra pro wrist release that's about 15 yrs. old,got a new bow last year wanted a new release to go with it tried 10-15 diffrent ones while at pro shop left there with my old Cobra,it just felt comfortable.Find what is best for you.HTH

Welcome to the site and to the world of bowhunting NB2002!The question you posed concerning how to release is a good one.I agree that whatever you choose,you want to be comfortable with it.I shoot a compound,
and I personally favor using a release-aid.The type I use is a Tru-Fire wrist strap type.If you have a background as a rifle hunter,often a release-aid is a more natural feel to a new-comer into archery since it feels much like triggering a rifle shot.There are alot of different types on the market,so what is right for one,may not be right for another.If you have a local pro shop nearby,drop in and take a look around,ask to try out a few of the different types they have,and see what feels good to you.Archery and bowhunting are full of variables,from bows to arrow types,broadhead styles,stands,and etc.There is a ton of great equipment out there,but the best choice is always the one that gives you that feeling of confidence.Best of luck to you,and look forward to hearing from you on the forum.

Go with the release. Few things feel comfortable the first time you use them, but the release will be more accurate in the long run.

Hi NB2002, if this is any help, I just started shooting a bow. I'm having a ball. I started out with a release. Don't buy a cheap one. I did & now have a Scott Lil Goose. Much better. Be sure to go to a good pro shop for your setup. It'll save lots of time & frustration. BTW if you have kids, get them interested. My 5 yr old saw my bow & wanted one. Now we fling arrows in the backyard together & have a great time. He goes with me scouting as well. I love it!!!

I'm pretty new to bowhunting as well. For the first six months or so I felt the same way about fingers shooting...however for the past year I have been using a release and find I am much more accurate. Like anything it just took time and practice to get use to it and comfortable
