Release noises

I've always used a TRU-Ball stinger wrist-strap release. I was thinking about trying a Chappy Boss or similar release. The cocking mechanism makes a really loud sound popping out when the release is triggered. Is this normal? Do any of you use this style release for hunting? I would like to for the back tension aspects and sensitivity of the trigger, but the noise drives me nuts.

Without a doubt. I agree holeheartedly. The only complaint I have on these releases is that noise. I'm using the trailboss and the chappyboss. I have a string and handle made to my drawlength and when I use it, the release alone will ring my right ear. I think that is just rediculous.

If you find a way to decrease the sound level, I’d love to hear about it. I really like these releases, right now I’m partial to the trailboss with the talon head and the cocking pin in the heavy pin hole.

Yea, my chappy boss makes quite a bit of noise. I dont use it for hunting though, its mostly a tournement release. I have thought about using it for hunting though, its just loud.

I have a tru-ball release. I thought I had the stinger until you mentioned "cocking" it. Mine uses calipers and is MORE THAN quiet. It makes no noise at all and was one of the factors in buying it. I bought it a year ago when I switched from fingers to a release and didn't pay as much attention to the model name, but I thought it was a stinger. Mine is dead quiet.

Daveh, you probably do have the stinger. The Chappy Boss is the one that has the noise. My stinger is extremely quiet.

This was all I could dig up for us. http://216.7.172.165/vb/showthread.p...t=loud+truball

The "target releases don't need to be quiet" thing might be true but come on. My only complaint is the noise. Nice piece of equip otherwise.
