Broadhead Penetration!!!

I picked up a new long bow called a LIL Magnum by Selway. I took a cedar arrow tipped with a 125gr. zwickey broadhead and shot at 5 yards into a 1/8 inch sheet of steel. The results were amazing. The broadhead penetrated thru the steel plate and the tip of the broad head was a 1/4 inch out the other side. I'm tellin ya this bow has some spunk!! The bow is rated 51#@27in., and I have a 29" draw length.
Here is the link if you want to see this longbow--www.selwayarchery.com

Has anyone else done any broadhead testing of any kind that would like to share with us bowhunters?

You need to check out 5 shot's web page. He tests them often and allways posts the results. His most resent test are listed alng with some tuning tips. He has a great web page, check it out.

I put a Zwickey Eskimo 2-blade head thru both shoulder blades of a 5pt out of a Robertson longbow shooting 145fps.

RE: Broadhead Penetration!!!

I recently tried shooting some broadheads through an Elk(3yr old cow) shoulder blade with 3 inchs of foam in front of it...and target behind.

I tried both Wasp Hammer SST (125gr) and Phantom 4 blade (125Gr).

Both heads blasted right through and penetrated 12 inchs into foam on other side...both held up ok.

The wasp has thinner sharper blades but they didn't hold the edge as good as the Phantoms.

I plan on testing some broadheads on Moose shoulder blades next year as I know a butcher that gets about 10-15 in each fall to cut up.

Glad your head penetrated, but think of what might have happened, if it had not from 5 yards? I'd hate to think that a bounce off might possibly have turned and struck you.

5 yards is a bit close for me! I have a pack of Zwickeys ready for testing as soon as I ge the time. Nice heads and I suspect they will do well.

RE: Broadhead Penetration!!!

I thought about that later and it is TOO CLOSE and I don't recommend anyone trying it either as you could be STRUCK from the impact, blades or pieces of the arrows.

I went to the Traditional Bowhunter's Expo West show in Ontario Ore. and came across this one booth that a guy was showing these broadheads called Eclipse and they are teflon coated and designed after the zwickey, but he says he took this broadhead a notch above the zwickey, and at there stand the eclipse broadhead is thru a 1/16th piece of steel plate, I was just curious what a zwickey would do on a 1/8th steel plate. Impressive, yes, but I should of been back quite a bit farther than I was, I don't even want to think about what a compound would have done with aluminum or carbon arrows and them thin razor blades on impact-- Very Dangerous-DO NOT TRY!!!

Thanks for the website...
