Would you enter a animal in the record books?

I shot a pronghorn antelope buck on public land in an area I love to hunt. The hunting pressure is very light in this area. My buck was taken with archery equipment and easily makes the 67" minimum score. Mine scores 81". The world record is 91 4/8".
I have been getting pressure to enter this buck from my friends. The problem is I do not want to list the county were I killed the buck. I do not want other hunters to start hunting there, just because there was a good buck killed there before? Am I being too selfish? Part of me thinks it would be kind of cool to see my name it print? The other part is telling me don't do it you could ruin a good thing?

What would you do if you killed a very nice animal be it (antelope, whitetail or elk) in your favorite hunting spot? Would you take the chance of ruining your favorite hunting spot and enter the animal? Would you leave the animal out of the book but still have it scored?

I have had mine scored by two offical scores. The mount hanging in my living room with a score sheet & harvest tag framed next to it.

I wouldn't enter it. If you have proof of it can you enter it later? Like if your spot is always hunted by others and it's ruined then you can enter it then. Congrats on the animal.

Wolf, with a score like that, it would put you in the top 100, very impressive and yes I would.
I had the moduals on my bow changed out to 65% to qualify for P/Y, but now I see now where they are going to allow 80% and if you use an 80% let off, they put an asterisk by your name.
Put your name in the dang book and be proud of it.
I'm putting in for the 900 tag so I can get my name in front of yours, ;) Good luck, Bobby

I have no desire to enter the buck I shot this year.

I respect the club and the trophies in it.

Maybe if I was top 100 I would rethink it. But when your entry is like 3,123,3245 place..........:(

Entering an animal into the "Record Books" is a personal decision that can only be made by that hunter. I would ask "why" would you want to enter it? Will it make the memory more clear, the trophy on the wall more appealing or your ego inflated by knowing your antelope is in a record book for people to read. That is not a derogatory statement, I know many people who actively seek praise from others. It's not the quiet, soulful moment when they walk up alone to their fallen trophy they hold highest, but the calling of every hunter they know to come on over and check out the "trophy". Let's be honest .. some guys LIVE for the looks on their buddies faces, we all know guys like this. Doesn't make them bad people at all. On the other side of the spectrum there is that guy in the group, you may know someone like this, who could shoot a monster ... but unless you asked him specifically you may not even know he scored. This is usually the same guy who gets really excited for the new hunter or suffering from a long drought hunter who shoots a spike. Most hunters fall somewhere in between.

I personally would only enter an animal into a record book if somehow it made the hunt more special, the animal more impressive or the memory more vivid. I've got 2 on the wall which I have "scored" with a friend, that have the inches of antler necessary to make the pages of a book. I admit it was fun doing the measuring and having an idea of how they "stacked up" against the biggest, but for me that was enough. I'm not sure how I would handle it if I took a top 10 animal, a problem I hope to have!!!!!! but I'm thinking it would take something like that to make me change my mind.

Let me add, I don't think there is anything wrong with record books... they're just not for me.

i would keep it private if possible...... but.... around here (ohio) you are automatically recorded publicly as to the county you got an animal as soon as you check it in. chances are if it is a record animal, like the beatty buck, it will be found out eventually anyway... your chances of keeping it private are slim to none.

If it was to make me a few bucks I would think about it, otherwise forget about it. As long as you know who cares!!!!
