Reading the morning paper i found a intresting article about the over population of elephants in afrika. At the Krügerpark they want to shoot some thousands. Gun shooting is not likely because it will cause to much stress and a alternative suggestion is poison them with Scoline. This poison will make them sufficate. A grown male will cost $ 13.000. To much for me. Maybe if someone will sponsor me? ;)

The game reserver is named Craig Reid. (pro minded hunting in the article)

I may be crazy, but what challange would there be to shooting an elephant? What do they run, all of 8 mph? Not my cup of tea.

Wow...I think these Africans run alot faster than that. Once see a bull charging on a jeep. The Jeep could not avoid the bull. I have also read they kill more people than predators, only outnumbered by hippo's. I cannot make a bet with you, but i don't think you can come within 50 yards that easy.

I think you have to find the challange in the special gear you need. Like a 100# compound and 700 grain arrows maybe?

Swamp dog, you may want to research the facts a little my friend. There is not a human alive that can outrun an elephant. Truly wild elephants despise people and take great joy in killing them. They are the most dangerous of the big five with archery equipment.

To darn intellegent, with an almost human emotion to them for me to stick one with an arrow.

No desire whatsoever.

Why?

No antlers.
No fur.
No sheds.
Can't be called in close.
You'd need to carry several gallons of scent into the woods with you.
Their rubs could take down you, your treestand and your tree.
Their scrapes could take out your 4x4.
The butcher bill would require a second mortgage.
The freezer needed would require the purchase of a parcel of real estate.
The backstraps would require the purchase of seasoning in bulk quantities.
Blood trailing would require waders.

And last but not least...can you imagine the drag back to the truck?:D

I just saw a documentary on the Kruger park this afternoon....talking about the vet that brings big animals (elephants, cape buffalo, rhinos etc.) to the park. Occasionally he and his helpers bring the animals to other parts of the country. If I remember correctly, I think the birthrate for elephants are 30% in the park.....which is alot higher than other parks......that's why they're having an elephant explosion.

And no, I won't want to kill an elephant.

I wouldn't mind going on an Africa hunt at least. SHooting a elephant, i dont i could have the heart because i like elephants too much, guess i'm a softie :D

I agree what would be the point. How sad to think we have to hunt every animal on the planet. I better start posting guard on my horses in the corral or someone might shoot one for a wall mount.
