Hoyt xtec speed?
 

Well I just got a new chrono and was messing around in the basement with my hoyt xtec. I know I am new to all this but I must say I am a little disappointted in the speed of my xtec. See if this sounds right: My set up xtec set at 71lbs, 27 in drawgoldtip arrow 375grains at top speed i was getting 267fps and average 264fps! oh ya rest is a TT

How do you guys check your speed, how far away do you stand when shooting, is their a disadvantage in shooting indoors. I really expected more speed! is their away to get more speed? Like I say I am new to archery! thanks

Starting with the 310 IBO rating for the XTec...

- loss of 30 fps for that 3 inch shorter draw length you are shooting.

- loss of approx. 8 fps for the heavier arrow weight

- loss of anywhere from 3-10 fps for the string accessories you may or may not have on the string.

310-30-8- (3-10) = anywhere from 262-269 fps.

Your chrono sounds to be right on with my estimates.

what would you gain by putting a differant string on? Can I make it faster or should I let it go! I want to hunt bear and elk with it, do I have enough KE?

Using different string materials can impact speed but also affects durability as well. There is always a trade off. As for your KE levels....I would head over to www.bowjackson.com and use his KE calculator to determine your levels. If you are shooting cut on impact heads or even some of the chisel tips style broadheads then I would shoot for at least 55 ft. lbs of KE if you are going after some of the larger game animals.

Well, I am at 58KE right now! I even thought of going to 65% let VS. 75%, Hoyt says I should gather aleast 10 fps! and should be more accurate, which I dont understand that part of the conversation? so I dont know what I am going to do yet?
