What does it cost you?

What on the average does it cost you to fletch a arrow with 3-4" feathers. I understnd
some feathers are more spendy then others, The reason I ask is because I get mine
done for 2 bucks a piece including the feathers at scheels. I dont go through them very
often because I shoot at a different spot with each arrow. I cant justify the 75-100
dollars for a fletching jig and supplies to get started unless it is alot cheaper. It does
sound like fun fletching your own arrows though.

RE: What does it cost you?

figure about .75 for an arrow w/ 3- 4" Truflight RW feathers
.24 for each feather and 3 cents for glue

BPE fletcher new w/ your choice of clamps approx $31.00
tube of glue $3.00
and it is Fun doing your own !!!

OOPS SORRY thats with 4 " vanes that makes it even less than feathers !
forgot not using glue with feathers but rather the fletching tape which runs abou $7.50 per roll but still Id say its too darn close to the above estimate to be concerned about !

I've never added up the cost for a line of glue on a feather! But I guess mordecaia is in the right ballpark. About 85 cents per arrow, not counting the fletching jig. I agree with his recommendation for the jig as well. It's a good jig for the money, but not the equal of a Bitz. Only I'd recommend using Bohning fletch tape for feather fletching instead of glue.

RE: What does it cost you?

jag, if you shoot a lot, its well worth it money wise and fun wise. Heck, its fun even if you don't make up a lot of arrows!:) I would hate to make a trip to my dealer every time I tore up some fletching. On the other hand, utilizing your local shop's services is being a good patron. Although I usually fletch my own, my local dealer should have my Axis arrows done by this weekend. Letting him dip in white laquar and he is also doing the fletching.
