Nice rack there, say you found that deer dead? That sucks. I have several pick up racks, I will try to post them later in the weekend.

Yes, found this one a couple years back. The one I found dead this year is MUCH smaller. I posted a pic of it a couple weeks ago also.

Shed hunting is a great time. You really should give it a try. It is honestly a great rush to find one. I get a bigger rush finding a small shed than I do seeing a small buck in season. They are pretty hard to find, but if you really want to find them you will. Its all about how much effort you want to put in. Sure you could go out your first time and find one, but probably not, it really takes some time.

I have some of my best luck finding them tangled in thick brush on field edges. Walk some field edges you know deer have been using. Scan the ground and the brush up about 3 feet or so. You will find some just dangling in the brush. Also scan the field as you go. After you finish walking the field edges follow some of the deer trails back into the timber.

Check all jump crossings such as ditches, small creeks, fence lines, blow down trees and so forth. The impact of the jump can jar them off when they land.

If you know where they are bedding is a good place to look also. Especially in my area they like to bed in more open places in the late season. I dont know why but they do. I have found them next to their beds in the snow. They are real easy to spot these beds even from a distance because they melt all the snow where they were laying.

This should get you started off on the right foot. Give it a try and good luck!!!!!

Good Luck NUBO and I'll bet that shed hunting with snowshoes on will definitely get the cardio pumping.

:D:D:D

The best time to look is when there is 2 inches or less of snow on the ground. The tines will really stick out and have a much darker contrast against the white ground covering. Today would be a great day to look for them here where I live. If I can sneak out today I'm gonna do a little hunting myself:)

For those that wonder why the snow melts around the sought after shed it is the fact that the sun heats up the shed and the heat that radiates from the shed to the surrounding snow leaves the shed exposed within the surrounding melt.;)

This should get you started off on the right foot. Give it a try and good luck!!!!!

Hey nice sheds!!!!!!!!!!!
I just went out on the 13th ,friday found one side of a small 8 point.
I have some BIG prospects to look for .
I have found only 4 sheds ever. This resent one was found bourdering a soy bean field .This buck was not seen on the property during any deer season, bow or gun .
I keep my searches around fence lines, where they cross ,feed field edges, grassy places where they bed.
I feel just as good finding a shed than harvesting a buck.Plus you can see there travel routes.
Looking for a needle in a hay stack,:)almost LOL

P.S You don't want to spooke the bucks .They carry what your looking for and will take and drop there antlers else where if bothered ,just like if you where hunting them.

That is a sweet rack. I am from pa and it wasn't until last year that we were allowed to pick up sheds. After seeing those I just might have to start looking.

I was out on sunday and came up with this one. too bad it didn't make it through. I believe this to be a young deer by the looks of the teeth.

the rack is about 18 in wide. I layed down a yard stick but it is impossible to read. it would have been a great find had the rodents not got to it first. they have eaten most 2 of the 8 points.

Here you go. A pick up from Pike County INDIANA. Found as a mostly decomposed skeleton. Private property. Found by a local jewelty shop owner in 2002 early archery while still hunting/ scouting. If I remember correctly it was 197 5/8"NT. I think he was 7 1/2 years old. I've never held anything larger personally (that's not really saying much) and talk about naaaarly brow tines..... goodness gracious! Double main beams and non-typs in general seem to be somewhat rare around here (Southern IN).

Thought I'd share. I'm not much of a trophy hunter (cept for the shiney gold and marble type) but I do appreciate the majesty of these wonderful creatures. Gotta give it up for the NICE RACKS!

Here is another I happen to have saved but don't remember the story behind it, except that it was a "pick up". Look at the size of the guys hands!!!!!!!
