RE: How do you score your shooting?

Can someone just explain 3d shooting and league shooting in general to me. What targets do you shoot at? How Far? Things like that. I don't think their is much of this in my area but I might be able to start something.

RE: How do you score your shooting?

Where are all those 3D shooters? Cotton... score is dependant on a couple things. How many targets are set up, whether or not they're scoring the 12 ring etc. You get 10 for the center ring on the 3D target, then there's an 8 ring and if you hit the animal anywhere else it's 5. A miss gets you a goose egg. There's a small silver dollar size ring in the bullseye/center ring. If they're scoring that and you hit it it's 12. Ranges vary with course to course. Most local shoots keep it under 45 I think, but they may throw in one 55 or so. You won't see many less than 17 or 18 and that would be on something small. So, if you have 30 targets and shoot all bullseyes you get 300. If you're scoring the 12 rings you could get 360. You get one shot at each target. No rangefinders and all that.

Cottonfarmer,
I also know alot of people that shoot in indoor leagues. These consist of 5 rounds of 15 arrows for a total of 45 arrows at 20 yards. It is shot at a piece of paper with 3 seperate targets on it. The center ring is worth 10 then 9 then 8 and so forth as you get farther away. This would make the best possible score a 450 with 45 x's. Personally the best I ever shot at the indoor league was a 425 with my hunting setup. Alot of people could be takling about this type of league as well.

RE: How do you score your shooting?

Davidmil pretty much nailed how it is in my neck of the woods as well.....10s, 8s and 5s with the occasional 12 throw in if you score it that way. More often than not in my area they count that 12 ring as an "X" so if there is a tie-breaker then the guy with the most "X's" wins.

Something else though. In my area there are three different colored "stakes" at different distances from the target. The white stake is the closest and is never past 20 yards. I believe this to be primarily for kids or beginners. The green stake is for "hunters" and is never past 35 yards...and the orange stake is for "competition shooters" and is never past 50-55 yards (IFIRC). I know this type of issue varies from area to area so just take it with a grain of salt.

To answer your first question a 298 out of 300 would be one heck of a score...at any level.

Thats a 300 round indoor score. 12 ends of 5 arrows per end = 60 arrows.

The center white ring is worth 5 points = 300 pts highest score.

the smaller "x" ring is scores as 5 pts with an x

60x is the highest x count you can get so..........

a 300 60x is a perfect round with all 60 arrows shot from 20yds in the x.

The 298 score is like rack-attack said. Pretty much, it would be like going and scoring a 300 in bowling.

RE: How do you score your shooting?

That 298 could also be out of 300 for a 3D round as David mentioned.

RE: How do you score your shooting?

Indoor club, 30 arrows x 10 points apiece = 300. These are shot from 20 yards and in groups of 5. Our 3D range is set up the same as the others have stated.:)
