Does anyone know of a good target for broadheads?

I make my own targets from high density foam which I pick up at home depot for 3 dollars a sheet
the sheet is 8x4 and I cut it into 2'squares then just use duck tape to hole them together

Hey Ausie, don't you get a problem with the foam melting to the arrow? We tried a target made of rolled carpet with a h-d foam backing and if the arrow went throught the carpet and into the foam, the foam melted to the arrow. It was a royal pain to get off too.

Ausie - Guy, I'm kind of interested in you target. Are you using carbon or aluminum, ---same question to Comndr-45.

BobCo, my bro in law and I were both using carbons. I was using a rough finish Gold Tip Camo Hunter and he was using the smooth finish Gold Tip XT hunter. We weren't smoking them, either. Both of us shoot 263fps.

Carbons will melt HD foam more so than aluminums because of surface texture. The aluminums are smoother....thus less friction, less heat.

BTW welcome to the board apotx. I use the CUBE for BH's. There are plenty of good targets for BH's out there. Take a look at Cabelas or Bass Pro.

Thanks comndr45, I kind of thought that was the case. When I used carbons, I had the same problems with the target getting stuck to my arrows. I got a curved razor blade from the local hoppy shop that worked nice to remove this kind of stuff. It also work well to remove fletchings and was reshapenable.
Sounds liek the target might work well with Aluminums. Did you have many arrows blow through the target?

yes I do have a little trouble with the foam melting to the arrow but I use car polish on the arrow it helps
I use carbon arrows
the best way I have found to get the foam off the arrow is with the back of a knife blade after I have finished for the day while I am watching the TV

I might also add that my neighbour has a block target that he got from Academy and my carbons also melt that
I am only shooting at 268
but like I said car polish or soap rubbed onto the arrow helps

A sand pile works great. Lacking that, I go down to the local feed and grain store and get some of the empty feed sacks and stuff them full of plastic bags or shrink wrap. Very similar to the U-stuff-it targets.

The wife bought me a black hole target that says it's a broadhead target. It was great for the first 20 shots, which all went into the white circle. Shot through the danged thing with 20 shots and 2 blade broadheads with a longbow so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone shooting a wheel bow and broadheads. It's good for field points but very limited life span with broadheads.
