How do you store your bow?
 

I am about to put my bow up for the hunting season..
It ends this Saturday :(
I was wondering about how store your bows safely for the year?
I will be taking it out for practice, don't want it too inaccessible.
Do I need to invest in a case?

I store mine in a hard bow case and I keep it under my bed so I know where it is safe and sound. I check on it periodically and clean it on a regular basis, and I'm getting spring fever so I can go back to shooting on a regular basis. Got the Winter Blues!!! :)

All my archery equipment is downstairs in my unfinished basement; I took two rubber-coated "S" hooks and screwed them into my floor joists a couple feet apart, then hang the bow by the string over the hooks. I'm not worried about this stressing or stretching the string as each hook is less than a quarter-inch from either the cam or the idler.

If you were worried about such a thing, you could just hang it on the hook by the idler, and let the bow hang down naturally.

I really don't understand why people say they love bowhunting so much and then hide their equipment untill the next season.Heck,my bow gets more use inthe "offseason" than during the hunting season.Go shoot 3-d or something but get it out and use it.


My wife gets really annoyed at my bow leaning against the wall in the bedroom year round.Maybe she should have let me spend the extra money when we built the house to have my own room.[:o]

I will be shooting mine too..
I am joining a shooting club.
But, this is new for me, this is my first bow... I have been leaning it against the wall in my bedroom & my husband is getting annoyed lol, go figure....
He doesn't bow hunt.. only gun... I took it up this year and love it...

Good for you,annoy him.It's fun and heck,maybe he will see all the fun you are having and join in.There may not be a better family sport out there than archery.I prefer 3-d and my kids and I have a blast.I try to take them with me atleast once a month.I shoot every weekend but I can't put everyone out there through those 2 every weekend.They both started when they were 2 and my daughter is 9 now and my boy is 5.

I agree, go shoot it. Just cause huntings over doesn't mean stop practicing.

Oh yea, and the kid idea, I started mine when they were young and my kids now out shoot me![:@] Thats alright though, the 3-d course gives us alot of bonding time and will fill my heart with memories for the rest of my life.;)

Now go shoot your bow and stop looking for a place to hide it.:D

I hang mine in the basement by the wheel, were it's accessible because I use it alot during the off season ,though this off season has been colder than normal so I haven't been able to get much use out of my new Patriot Dually but now it's getting more seasonal I'll shoot some 3D .

STORE MY BOW, HE!! NO. That is a sin in this house. No it usually just stays in a corner by the door to outside. That way it's easy to take it outside to shoot a little.

i am excited to keep shooting it at 3d ranges and the club that i am going to join, just needed a decent way of storing it, so it's off of the wall.... lol
i am taking my daughters with me when i go,(they are 8 & 12, it is a fun thing to do together..we've been shooting in the backyard until it got into the bitter cold temps.

For those of you that travel on a plane on the occasional distant hunt the Aluminum lockable bow cases are the best. You never know what condition your luggage is going through trying to get it there. Plus some of them could get ran over by a tractor and still protect your bow, theyre pretty tough.

I store my bow, for the time being, on top shelve in my closest until i can get a case for it. Sad to say i havent done much shooting, only one arrow left and no money for more [:'(]

Robinhood, Why do you put it under your bed? I have mine in my bed. Don't want to be dreamin' of a big bull and not have my bow ready.

I have one of those gun cleaning do-hickeys in my hunting room on table that I just set mine on when I'm not using it.

I try to shoot year round but sometimes work doesn't permit it. When i'm not going to be able to shoot for a week or two i usually just stick mine in the gun safe.

;) Mine is at the ready, year round. I practice in all weather conditions. Recently, I have noticed quite an increase in my local coyote population. I'm gonna take the challenge of a new form of hunting for myself. Have been doing a lot of study on the critters and am getting ready to start thinning the pack. I don't like the way they have been terrorizing my deer and aim to do a little leveling of the field.;)

I do not really store mine for more than a day or two at a time. I have two bows at the moment. The one that I don't plan on using anytime soon is placed in my hard bow case and stored in my equipment closet. The other is in a soft case because I take it out and use it much more often.

Hunting season was over 2 weeks ago and mine is still in my truck!!

When I get around to taking it out, it will either go in the garage or in my gun cabinet. Depends on how lazy I am that day.

I got a bow rack that holds my bow and a dozen arrows. I just hang it in my basement. Once this cold weather passes[:@] I'll be able to get out and shoot again:D so I never really "put it up."

I hang mine in my down stairs closet. I have a rubber coated hook which I insert through one of the holes in the riser. Don't know about hanging by the wheel or string.

Also the boy and I are getting up early and driving for an hour tomorrow morning to shoot at an indoor range for an hour or two.:D

I got five other bows to shoot during the off season. 3D rig, back up 3D rig ,spot bow, don't shoot the hunting bow unless I'm hunting. they all hang in the closet though..

All year long I just let my bows hang on hooks by the idler wheel .... in my hunting area in my unfinished basement. When I go hunting then it goes in the case if I'm traveling to hunt, or I just carry it outside if I'm hunting at home.

I used to keep mine in the case where I could get to it easy because I shoot year round. Learned a hard lesson this year came home from work a few weeks ago and found my house broken into and my bow gone, my new matthews stays in the gun safe

i turned a old unused gun rack with a lockable shelf into a bow hanger my 3 bows all fit an the shelf has my releases and other bow essentials in it like string wax etc..

My season ended(for me) this AM. Before I left the woods I handed my bow to Len(my proshop/hunting buddy) to take back for an end of year overhaul. He'll put on new strings, cables, tear it down and check/replace axles, lube axles, limb pockets etc. Then I'll probably start shooting it to break in the new string. I'll shoot a little and when the weather turns better I'll shoot alot. Then around August I'll change the string again in prep for hunting season... of course I will have been hunting on crop damage since sometime in July. I'm not sure what you're talking about.... "Store a bow". Do people actually do that? When I sleep at night I hang it on some pegs in the basement.

mine is hung by the risers on a 2 peg rack that I made - works pretty good
if I get a hard case I may store my bow in it
