ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
Just wondering if most bowhunters/shooters are faithful to one bow maker or do you change from one maker to another? And do you remember which bows you used to shoot? My first post I ever posted I said I was going to hang up the old wht. hunter bow and I was trying to decide to go with Mathews or Bowtech, well, to tell you the truth, I hung up that old bow along time ago, I apologize for the fib, but I wanted your take on which bow everyone liked or disliked without being partial cause you knew I shot a mathews, and I did get alot of different opinions. I have been shooting my mathews(featherlite) for 8yrs. now and have taken alot of bull elk, 2 bear, and 1 muley buck, so, its like my right hand man you could say. But I think its time to replace it as there are alot of nice bows on the market now, still undecided...
Heres the bows I have owned in order, I'll see if I can get it right-- Jennings Starlite, Bear Wht. HunterII, PSE PhaserII, Golden Eagle, High Country Trophy Hunter, and my old faithful, Mathews Featherlite. |
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?

RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
Good grief.... There is no way I can remember all the bows I've shot since 1955. I know I shot homemade selfbows until I got my first storebought bow - a solid glass Bear recurve, 45 pounds. Then I had some nameless wood/glass recurve that I shot for ages. My first compound was a Pearson, circa 1980. Don't even know what model it was but it had the deer hoof logo stamped in the wheel hangars. And that's when I went nutzoid!
Several wood riser Brownings, a Bear, Onieda, several Martins, umpteen jillion Hoyts (well, 10 anyway), McPherson, Pearson - again. And at the same time I had the compounds going on, there were still sticks: several each of Martin ML-14's and Howatt Hunters, some Pearsons, Shakespeares, Bears, York, Hoyts, Brackenbury (first custom 'curve), Bighorn, Saxon (2), Robertson, Bill Stewart... Lordy! Now I've got a homemade r/d longbow, a few selfbows, still got a few Hoyts and a Martin laying around, a Chek-Mate on the way. You wouldn't believe how many of those bows I'd love to have back. And how many I'm darn glad to be rid of! :) |
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
Hmmm.....
Browning Mirage Hunter DC to.... Hoyt MT Sport to.... BowTech MightyMite to.... BowTech Liberty (and I don't plan on switching anytime soon) :D |
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
Started with Bear, then Darton, Golden eagle and now the best of the best--- Hoyt!
|
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
I would love to try out a different bow.....but I don't have the cash flow that some of these guys must have. When I get a bow, typically it has been about a 5 year comitment each time.
I would be really interested in trying out a bowteck or parker....but no sence in going and getting any hopes up when I know I am not going to get one. |
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
I'm fickle. Started with a Damon Howitt recurve. Then I shot PSE for around 26 or 27 years and then switched to Darton for the last 4 or so.[:o] I hunted with the same PSE Lazer Magnum for almost 20 years. I then switched to an SR1000 for a few years, .... and now the Darton. No need to change right away.
|
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
I started with an old PSE a friend gave me but my last two have been hoyts and the next one probably will be also.
|
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
Bear recurve, bear magnum hunter, golden eagle pro-revolution, and presently a bowtech bkII and custom made kota recurve.
|
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
My first bow was a pse but I can't remember which model it was, I was only like 8. My second bow was a pse youth model bow but can't remember the model name either, and I used this bow for 3 years. Unfortunately I did not harvest anything with it [:'(]. then I switched to a Golden Eagle Carbinehawk. I shot that bow for 7 years. I now own an 03 bowtech patriot sc. I have never owned or shot a bow I didn't like though. ;):D:D
|
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?

Hoyt Impala Golden Eagle Splitfire BowTech Patriot Dually 04 We'll see how this goes and maybe I'll have another B/T next season My kids have BowTech Rascal as well |
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
I shot a High Country for 9 years.........switched to a Mathews. Probably shoot the Mathews about that many years and then see what's out there........
|
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
RH36,
I have owned 3 bows. My first was a High Country Trophy Hunter, Then a Martin Pantera and my new bow a Bowtech Liberty. :D |
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
Stared with a willow branch and sticks( god I miss that old bow), I Went to a bear recurve that I could only get about half way back. From there I moved on to an old PSE compound with wooden limbs. Got my first kill with that. Can't tell you how many times I emptied the quiver before getting that. That was the best deer missing bow I ever owned. From there I went to a newer PSE and shot that for a couple of years. From there I went to a Darton, one of the earlier ones. Compared to todays bows it was a giant. This was the first bow I had ever put sights on and the first time I had ever shot with a release. After owning that for a couple of years I sold it in a yardsale coverded with blood and all. I bought the Mathews Z-light after that, before the big Mathews kick. I shot that for so long everyone was asking me if it was the new model because it didn't look like the more modern ones. Last year I decided to splurge and get the LX. I like the bow alot and got the witches out in the first hunt and landed 300 lbs of boneless meat in the freezer. I am looking at the new ovation for tournament shooting. I agree with a previous post. I too have never shot a bow that I didn't like.............I was Mathews when Mathews wasn't cool.

RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
First bow was a PSE Nova. Went from that to a PSE Diamondback.
|
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
Jennings, to PSE, to Parker. I am very pleased with the price an performance of the Parker lineup and doubt that I will stray from this company.
|
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
My first bow was a PSE and now 20 years and 5 bows later, I'm still shooting PSE. My Stingray is now almost 4 yrs old and I may be in the market for a new one next year. I've had great service from PSE and I'd hate to switch, but the Bowtechs and Matthews will also be on my list of choices.

RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
2 - Bears
2 - Jennings 2 - Brownings 2 - Hoyts 4 - Parkers I've never owned a Mathews or a Bowtech but i've shot quite a few and they are nice bows indeed but they just weren't for me. I started shooting and settled in on Parker about 5 years ago and absolutely love their bows and don't see myself shooting anything else as long as Parker keeps making bows. Their bows just seem to fit me like a glove and every one i've had or have had has performed flawlessly. I currently have the Ultra-lite Pro and the UL35 and needless to say my next bow will no doubt be a Parker. I like Parkers new line up for 2004 but i think i'll stick with the two i have for a while longer:D |
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
Started with martin shot it for years then hc carbon 4 runner two seasons and bought a Mathews lx for the upcomming seasons.
|
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
In my house i've got GOLDEN EAGLE,MATHEWS,PSE,AND PEARSON.The first two are mine,my boy has the PSE,and the wife shoots PEARSON.

RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
I'm completely unfaithful to a brand. However, I am faithful to the shop I give my business to. I will choose from whatever they decide to carry. Their great service is far more important then any particular brand. I've found that today, all brands are good and that there is a bow in every lineup that I'd love shooting. My local shop carries 3 or 4 brands and I have a hard time deciding between the models of each of these manufacturers. There are many bows I would be happy shooting. I always want to leave my options open, therefore I'm not dedicated to any one brand.

RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?

RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?

But I am very interested in the Merlin's !! |
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
I am a product SLUT:D
The make, manufacturer, or name don't mean a thing to me. If the girl next door has something cool to offer I am on it.[:-] |
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
Lets see I started in 63 with a BenPearson then to a bear then Hoyt back to bear and then the compound came out I shot an Allen then a Carroll then I bought a Darton SL 1000 I believe it was since that time I have srtayed only once from Darton and that was because it was free a Mountaineer the hardest bow to keep in tune I ever saw I got a new Darton about 8 years ago and since that time I have had 4 more I still have 2 and will probably stick with them for good.

RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
Since I bought my 1st bow that I did not make in 1956 I have shot MANY. Eddings (my 1st), Bear,Ben Pearson, Hoyt, Groves, Herters, Paul Bunyan, Magna Flite, Jennings, PSE, Martin, Golden Eagle, Astro , Carrol, American Archery, Damon Howatt, Darton & probably a few I have forgotten.
I have been Bowhunting biggame with a bow for 46 years now. I look at the new bows every year at shows ect. but for the past 20 years have shot only Darton. I "JUST" like them & bought a new one (1 cam) for this past season. I cannot say anything bad about any others-They(Darton) have always had what I was looking for AND the MASS weight of the bow itself is one of the best features to me as long as I like the grip. If you like the way the grip feels in your hand-you will (most times) shoot the bow well. It's like the Rocky Mountain Broadheads I started using when they 1st came on the Market-I see no reason to change when they (Bow & Broadhead) have served me so well in the past. I will be taking them after a Buffalo this coming March. |
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
um let's see pse pse pse and just ordered a new bow and yes pse have always had great service from them so i would say yes i'm faithful,, only thing i can complain about with pse is there mongoose quivers i bought 2 of them and both broke, but after that second one broke i called them and 3 days later i had a new quiver one of the new ones a bolt on 2 piece, well my 2cents worth

RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
Hoyt Game Getter III to an XI Flatliner (junk) to a Proline (pre-Darton) Mountain Bow (great bow) to a Mathews Feather Max (another great one) to a Mathews Legacy (awesome bow).
I'm holding onto the Legacy for at least 1 more year. After seeing Mathews offerings this year, I'm content w/ the Legacy. Bowtech and Hoyt do look interesting though. If they shoot as recoil free as my Legacy, it's going to be a tough call. |
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
been shooting 2.5 yrs pse nova, martin jaquar magnum, hoyt mt sport, now a

RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?

RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
Thanks all bowhunters/shooters for your replies, looks like for the most part everybody shoots all kinds of makes and models of bows, Good Luck and Good Shooting!! :)
|
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
Parker all the way
|
RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
Started with a bear back in 66 had one ever since, just bought a code S ,3 years ago, I think its time for a Mathews Outback. As long as I don't have to keep sinking money into my house. Although I want a new bathroom, new shed, probably paint the whole house. new windows. Where my gonna find time to hunt with it? Answer There's always time to fix up the house , as long as it doesn't interefere with hunting season and work. In that order.:D

RE: ARE YOU FAITHFUL ?
I thought Bowtech was the only manufacturer out there;)
