Which laser rangefinder?
I want a laser rangefinder for hunting both bow and gun. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am looking at the $200 price range, but would be very glad to spen a lot less on a good product.

RE: Which laser rangefinder?
Nikon Laser 400. I love it.

RE: Which laser rangefinder?
I have to personally second that notion, NIKON 400...
I got one this year and love it.... Ya just cant beet it for the price... You just have to learn to trust it.. No more guessing at yardage.. Just get your ranges within your shooting ability and your set... You can pretty much set up a peremiter around you knowing what the yarage are... You deffinatley can't go wrong...[:-] |
RE: Which laser rangefinder?
I was looking at the Nikon 400. I like it. The reason I am getting one is for the west. If I am in the woods, I can judge yardage fine, but looking across a valley, I am way off.

RE: Which laser rangefinder?
I've used several and my pick is the Leica. The smaller ones are better to carry, but don't seem to read smaller targets as well.

RE: Which laser rangefinder?
I like my Bushnell Yardage Pro Scout.

RE: Which laser rangefinder?
Throw my vote in for the Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport. Distance and accuracy of this unit are more than satisfactory for bowhunting plus the price is around $170 most places.

RE: Which laser rangefinder?
I have to throw another plug in for the Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport. I've used mine for 4 years and have had no problems with it. Sometimes in the very low light it is hard to get a reading but I believe that would be the case with most rangefinders. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

RE: Which laser rangefinder?
I like my bushnell yardage pro sport as well, cheap and works well.

RE: Which laser rangefinder?
Thanks for your replies.
How well does the Pro Sport work for mule deer at say, 450yards? I like the price, but not the 4x lens. I have pretty much narrowed my selection down to: (random order) 1. Bushnell Yardage Pro Scout for $250 at cabelas. 6x. 570 yards. 2. Nikon Buckmasters 400 for $200. 8x. 437yards. 3. Nikon Laser 600 for $270. 6x. 600 yards. (but a little over my price) 4. Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport for $150. 4x. 450yards. I will have to look around and see what I can get these for. Does anyone not like any of these rangefinders for any reason? Thanks again for your replies. |
RE: Which laser rangefinder?

RE: Which laser rangefinder?
;) I'm a bit ol' fashioned. All my areas that I frequent have been paced off during the off season. When I settle down after year round scouting to pace off the real sweet spots I again pace them off in 10 yds increments/ 360 degrees/out to 30 yds. I mark yardage with an X on 10/20/30 trees. In open areas I drive tomato stakes and mark likewise. It's great exercise, more time afield to learn and real inexpensive!!

RE: Which laser rangefinder?
I've owned two Bushnells: The 400 and the 600. Very reliable, but they both read a yard short (not a big deal, but it would've been just as easy for them to get it right), and both lasers hit below the reticle box (could give you a short reading at the wrong time; another thing they could've done right without spending an extra dime).
I got tired of toting both a laser and a bino, so I finally sprung for the new Wind River 8x32 bino/rangefinder. $700, but worth it to me. |
RE: Which laser rangefinder?
Bino\rangefinder combo. Now that is something to think about. I will be buying both, so maybe is should buy a combo. Will have to look into that.

RE: Which laser rangefinder?
I owned the Bushnell Yardage Pro (until it was stolen) and replaced it with the Nikon 400. I would have to say that the Nikon 400 is the better unit for the money. You may want to check Ebay out I bought mine there new in the box for $165.00.

RE: Which laser rangefinder?
I vote for the bushnell ,I have an 800 for that reason that I can use it for bow or rifle .I also hunt moose and looking into and across small valley's this rangefinder gives me a better judgement on the distance It's a little more than $200.00 but it's very well worth it .I wouldn't leave home without it now.

I'll let you have it for 30 bucks.[:'(] |
