IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT NEW BOW

I have a very important question. I have been thinking about a new bow and I have been looking at the PSE Baby G Package from Cabelas. The kit is 399.99 but valued at 738.99. The specs on the bow are that it has a brace height of 5 1/2", Axle to Axle is 36", it weighs 4 pounds 3 ounces, up to 80% let off, AMO Std. 245 fps, IBO 312 fps. The bow has PSE's Infinity Split-Harness string, LIghtning OneCam with positive draw stop, and a 6061 Machined-aluminum X-treme Reflex riser. The Kit comes with the bow, FX hunter sight, Universal 2-Tuff arrow rest, Mongoose Stavilizer, 2pc. 8-arrow quiver, 4 Carbon Force Dominator carbon arrows, camo sling, Mongoose peep sight, and string loop. Is this a high quality bow? Does anybody own one? I have heard that if a bow is too fast, it causes problems, if that is true, would this bow be causing a lot of problems due to the fact that it shoots IBO of 312 fps? I am just wondering about this bow. My friend had a PSE Nova Stage 3 and he really hated it. He had it for one year and sold it. He decided to buy his Browning Tornado instead and he loves it. I own a older Browning Mirage and I do like Browning, but there bows are pretty expensive and the PSE Baby G sounds like a GREAT deal. I was wondering what all of you guys think of it. REMEMBER, I am not a millionare, I can't afford a high quality Hoyt or Matthews. haha, it seems that 90% of you guys shoot Hoyt or Matthews. Well any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and I am sorry that this is so long.

RE: IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT NEW BOW

The baby g is not a current production bow from PSE, and hasn't been for a few years. The small brace height on this bow makes it less forgiving of form errors. Go to a pro shop and look at the new production bows with new technology, you can achieve the same speed with a more forgiving bow.In your price range is the Thunderbolt, 300 fps and 7 in. brace height, and the dakota at 300 fps and 7 1/4 brace.

RE: IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT NEW BOW

Buck Magnet.......yes you can afford a high quality Hoyt bow.
I believe that Hoyt still offers either the MAgnatec or MTSport as a package deal for about that price with quality accessories(I saw 2001 model packages for like $279) .
If you shot that Baby-G next to either of those bows and liked it better......butter it up cause' I'll eat it! :)
I had a Baby-G myself......I won't go into it here, but lets just say that we didn't get along very well.
In my ever so humble opinion it ranks in the top 3 worst/hardest to shoot bows since Neanderthal man was running around shooting Wooly Mammoths with stick bows and stone tips.......in fact I'd personally rank the Baby-G slightly ahead of an Atlatl for shooting enjoyment and accuracy.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I really don't know how else to put it.....you don't want a Baby-G. Especially over some of the other options out there.

Like I said Hoyt has some high quality inexpensive bows that will shoot rings around the Baby-G.......as well as one of the new package bows by BowTech for around $399. Their new TomKat has a 9.5&quot; brace height with quality sights, stabilizer, rest etc. and it shoots around 290 IBO with a 4&quot; HIGHER brace height than the Baby-G!!!<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>It is selling for around $400 at most dealers.(come on, you knew it was coming!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>).....there are also other many many other bows out there that are much more forgiving and fun to shoot than that particular PSE.....including some other PSE's!!
I know it sounds like a great deal for it.....but it's just one of those thing where you are either going to have to trust someone who's been there......or find out for yourself.

Do yourself a big favor and keep shopping......we'll be more than willing to help you spend that $$$ the right way!.....I love spending other people's money!

RE: IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT NEW BOW

Thanks guys, I am glad that I decided to ask you guys first. I always ask you guys first, somebody knows something about everything on this board. Could anybody give me some other ideas for bow packages that are forgiving, fast, and accurate. I would like to keep it under 500.00 if possible. Also, could anybody give me websites that describe these bows in detail, thanks.

RE: IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT NEW BOW

Buck Magnet.....
I can tell you that I held one of BowTech's package bows and they are sweet(the &quot;TomKat&quot;)......it's like a cross between a &quot;Mighty Mite&quot; and a &quot;Stalker&quot; very light and SUPER SUPER forgiving brace height(actually 9.2&quot; sorry) coupled with speed in the 290's.
The accessories from what I understand aren't junk......Tru Glo sights, GKF rest, new BowTech quivers and stabilizers.
I'm not sure what the difference is between the Blackhawk, and the TomKat, but the Tomkat can be had for around $400......the Blackhawk for around $500. If they are similar bows(they must be, they have the same specs) I'm guessing that the Blackhawk has better accessories. I didn't see a Blackhawk so I don't know.....

Here's a link to the &quot; What's New&quot; page of BowTechs site where they talk briefly about them. I'm sure as soon as they update their site we'll know more.
http://www.bowtecharchery.com/whats_new/Jan_16B_02.html

And don't overlook that &quot;Stalker&quot; under 3lbs....IBO speed of 300fps and a 7.75&quot; brace height! (I think for about $300-320ish depending on dealer)This would be an OUTSTANDING mid level hunting bow.....it's got the same cam design as their most expensive models....and would still leave you plenty of money to put the accessories of your choice on it.

I'll let Frank, and Big John and others discuss the bows in Hoyt's , PSE and other manufacturer's line-ups because I won't do them justice.

RE: IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT NEW BOW

Ausie.....I think even the PSE guys would admit the truth about the &quot;Baby-G&quot;.
If not.....wooooooo I'M A SCARED!!<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT NEW BOW

Hey Matt, thanks, I was looking at the Stalker, that is a very nice looking bow. I have a nice Cobra sight that I can put on it, and I could get the rest of the stuff that I want. I will have all summer to fix it up, I will probablly get an X-Ring stabilizer, N.A.P. Quick Tune 3000 for it. I am pretty sure that is the bow I am going to go with. It looks like the perfect mid level bow. Are there any accesories for it that you think work the best on it?

RE: IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT NEW BOW

BM,
It's a very light bow, so keep everything on the light side......The QUIKTUNE 3000 is a decent rest for the money that'll work.
As for stabilizers the 3 I'd opt for on the Stalker are.....NAP &quot;Shockblocker&quot; , Vibracheck &quot;Isolator&quot; or probably the one I'd really go for on that bow would be a GKF &quot;Tranquilizer&quot; either plain or with the small weighted end......your gonna have to play around and find one that balances nicely. Just don't pick one ahead of time and stick with it.......find a nice shop that will at the very least let you screw em' in and see how they balance. (Bug them to shoot a few as well.....they should let you)
ANy decent fiber optic sight will be fine.....Cobra, Archers Choice, Montana BG, etc.
Throw some limbsavers on or get the dealer you buy it from to put on a set of BowTech's new &quot;Vibrablock&quot; limb dampeners....they're supposed to work as well and can't come off.
Also get them to put on a set of the new String Silencers.....I just put them on my bow and they work pretty nicely. very little speed loss and they should hold up much better than String Leeches.

Me personally with a bow that light, I'd either go with a light small removable quiver like a Quikee or none at all, and use a hip quiver that you can hang in your tree......anything bulky is going to ruin the streamlined light feel of that bow.

It really is a terrific bow, and I think the top of it's class ($300ish range).....I'm betting you'll love it.

If you need any more advice feel free to give me a yell anytime.

RE: IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT NEW BOW

Thanks again, I will have to go to Four Season bow shop and see what they have and if they can get that bow in. I REALLY appreciate your help. I will mess aroud with some equipment too. So, how many Bow Techs have you convinced people to buy? I might e-mail them and tell them about you. Heck, maybe you will get a new bow out of it <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT NEW BOW

Buck Magnet......
I'm really not trying to SELL them.....I just don't think that they should be overlooked for a second. They have some of the most exciting and innovative bows around, and many people don't know much about them.
I've been shooting them for over a year now, and have had a chance to own or shoot almost all of them, and they're a really well made bow.....I've really been impressed with them.
They have a bow for basically EVERYBODY.....from the worst speed freak, to the budget minded hunter who wants the best bang for his hard earned buck, and everyone in between.
I like the fact that they listen to criticism and improve or change models as needed, and are truly trying to make the best bow they can make, with the highest attention to detail and quality components.

Oh yeah,....that new &quot;Stalker&quot; of yours will have a lifetime warranty on everyting but string and cable and camo finish.

But to answer your question.....I honestly think about 15 bows that I know of ,and at least partially credited with 2 entire dealer start-ups.....Hey if you can get me a new bow YOU'RE THE MAN!!<img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>I think they owe me one don't you?<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

The good thing is.....I haven't heard of a single person dissapointed yet!<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Well, I will e-mail them tommorow. I will tell them that you have helped me come to the conclusion to get one of their bows and you have done it with about 2 dozen others. I will tell them that I feel you are a huge supporter and that you deserve a new bow.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT NEW BOW

Dont take everyones word for it on what bow you should buy. Dont worry about brands cause everyone makes good bows. Shoot what feels good to you. If you just shoot what someone else tells you you will regret it.

Hey Buck Mag,
If I could suggest some accessories. Check out the Trophy Ridge sights, the Alpine Soft-Lok quiver, and one of the new 2002 stabilizers from Trophy Ridge or the new Modular-3 from Simms. These accessories will make your set-up one of the deadliest in all of PA with some hard practice.Good luck with the new bow

RE: IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT NEW BOW

I would shy away from the Baby G but they do sell a Special line bow that is excellent for the money and that is the Marauder for about $279. It is an awesome bow for the money.

RE: IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT NEW BOW

Good luck BM, I think Matt has you on the right track, 3dfpse is also right, PSE has a few nice little set up's. I dare not say anything bad about them, for fear of being shot.<img src=icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle>

Hoyt and Mathews are a little bit on the expensive side. I think you will like the stalker(not knowing from personal shooting experience). Let us know how it shot, I will be on the market for a new hunting bow, with a students budget in mind. Right now I have to get all my olympic archery equipment, wooooo expensive<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle> Good luck BM.
