RE: got a few questions
welcome to the board buck;you need a good bit of KE to shoot expandables,so you need to check the stats on your bow.
I shoot NAP spitfire 100 grain.they shoot good for me,but I shoot a 150lb. crossbow. there is a lot of info on this board for the asking. just jump in when you feel the need. I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry. Edited by - tree climber on 02/09/2002 20:05:29 |
RE: got a few questions
5shot has the answer to your post he has done many test on broadheads. I know the spitfire (which is what I use) did not do very well in the test but i have taken numerous deer with them. any broadhead will work with good shot placement

RE: got a few questions
I have never used expandables. I don't think that I ever will, I am HOOKED on N.A.P. Thunderheads. I would have thought that N.A.P. Spitfires are very good. N.A.P. makes HIGH QUALITY products, I have heard VERY good things about Bloodtrailers. They look like a field point. They supposidly are the most accurate expandables.
Good Luck This Season: Buck Magnet P.S. Only Chuck Adams can sit at home and see deer so get into the woods. =;^) |
RE: got a few questions
I recomend N.A.P. spitfires they work well for me.

RE: got a few questions
Rocket Steelheads 125's are the best penetrating expandable on the market today according to almost every test that I have seen. They even penetrate better than Thunderheads and Muzzy, according to side by side test by Guns And Gear magazine.
The nap spitfires will not do well if you have lower ke and lower speeds. There are several on this site that have found that out the hard way. check out Rockets web site and read everything they have to say,it is a very informative site. www.rocketaerohead.com Edited by - tfox on 02/10/2002 01:11:20 |
RE: got a few questions
I can't help you with mechanical broadheads because I am a Muzzy user! But I want to welcome you to the board. Lots of good info here.

RE: got a few questions
welcome to the bowhunting board. I realy don't know what kind of setup you are using so I can't recomend a broadhead for you. Mechanicals can be deadly, but they need to be shot out of a bow producing enough Kinetic energy to provide the proper amount of penitration. Bow tuning is also critical. Mechanicals will shoot more accuratley from a poorly tuned bow than will a fixed blade head, the thier preformace will not be as good. If you bow is properly tuned, and you are shooting with at least 55 ft/lbs of KE, than I would recomend the Rocky mtn Snypers as my first choice in a mechanical head. The penitrate as well as many fixed blade heads, their blades are sharp, and they fly just like a field point. My next choice would be the New archery products shocwaves, and or rocket steel heads. Remeber all of this is provided your bow is tuned well, and you are shooting at least 55 ft/lbs of KE. If you know your arrow weight, and speed you can go to www.bowjackson.com to find your Kinetic energy level. If you fall below 55 ft/lbs I would recomend a quality fixed blade head.

RE: got a few questions
IF....you have enough KE to shoot a mech then by all means check out the Rocket line-up.The Rocket Steelhead is the hardest hitting, deepest penetrating mech that I have ever used.Absolutely devestating....a bullet with butterfly wings !!! Death comes swiftly on Rocket wings....smooth as ravens claws.Welcome tothe forums
