Small Game hunting

I've been intersted in not only hunting whitetails, but some small game as well such as rabbit and squirrel. Today after my dogs chased a big fat rabbit not 10 yards in front of me I got to thinking about what in the world I'd shoot him with. I was practicing at the time and had gone up to my target to pull out the arrows (without my bow) when the rabbit ran by me [:o] DOH!!

In any case, I seem to recall having heard about using blunt points for small game, but I've never seen any sold anywhere. I'd love any advice you folks might be able to offer on this small subject.

How many rabbits you got in your area? I have a hard enough time blasting them with a shotgun. Them critters are fast! :D

I was taught just to put a small washer onto a feild tip with a hole just big enough for the threads to go through but small enough so it dont slide down the arrow. Works good for grouse and quail, and my buddy got a jack rabbit too with it. I always keep one of those arrows with me but I always either get two shots or loose/break my grouse arrow and end up using a broadhead and that works too. But expensive for small game but usually too much fun to pass up, and that only when I am at camp or heading back to the truck.

Ever seen those single-bleeder blade with a blunt end on 'em? I hear they are just the trick for rabbits.

Well, I dont' know how much rabbits we have but I know there are a good amount. I live on 130 acres of swamp and forest and my dad and I both have gardens that the critters like to feed in :(

The washer idea sounds great, however, the blunt points seem like they'd save you a lot of arrows since they won't slide under the ground and will help keep the arrow from being destroyed and stuck in trees.

Try useing "judo points" they are blunt tips with spring loaded arms that catch on grass and sticks so you don't lose your arrows so easily. You can get them at cabelas or at your local shop. Good luck.:)
