Camo Clothing and scent control
I hunt in N.Y. and PA.I'm wondering what would be the best Camo for early season archery to the end of gun season?Oct.1 to Dec. 28.Advantage Timber,Mossy Oak Break-up,Realtree Hardwoods, Realtree X-tra Brown?I hunt from a stand most of the time, but also ground hunt.Do you think it"s worth the money to buy Scent-Lok clothing?

RE: Camo Clothing and scent control
I never tried scent lock but I like the the new green hardwoods pattern from realtree and advantage timber. once the leaves start turning brown & start falling I move on over to realtree hardwoods & mossy oak breakup.

RE: Camo Clothing and scent control
I am a fan of Mossy oak break up...I really don't think it matters though. Take a look at the Nat-Gear...I have some snow camo in that pattern...LOOKS GOOD!!!
As for sent-lok...it's awsome. There is no other way to describe it. Good luck! John |
RE: Camo Clothing and scent control
I would be more concerned about wearing the Scent-Lok itself than I would be the camo that is printed on it.All the Scent-Lok and the Scent Blocker line are offered in todays top quality camos and it would be hard to go wrong with any of 'em.Carbon clothes are NO gimmick, they work. There not a cure all for sloppy hunting, but when utilized as part of a bowhunting arsenal they will get you closer to game.I wear a Scent-Lok liner and then Scent Blocker camo over that. Then I spray everything down with Carbon Blast and if you give this system a try you WILL see results.

RE: Camo Clothing and scent control
I would get the scent blocker liner, that way you can where it under other sets of camos. Its not a cure all though, you still have to shower with scent free soap, keep all hunting clothes scent free, boots, bow etc.because if you dont it doesnt matter how much scent blocker or scent lok you wear, your gonna get busted. And the commercial "forget the wind just hunt",thats B.S.Always pay attention to the wind, stay scent free and you will see more deer. Good Luck!!

RE: Camo Clothing and scent control
around 12 years ago i bought some realtree advantage camo from cabelas.i use it for every thing from spring turkey to late season deer and predator hunting.i swear by it,i have had deer, turkey and coyotes 10 yards away and never know i was there as long as i don't move.for ny hunting this camo pattern seems to work real well when used with good common sence.as far as scent lock,i have never used it. but if it gives a hunter a little more of an edge, then its worth the money.

RE: Camo Clothing and scent control
I would consider the scent-lok lined leafey wear. It really wouldn't matter what camo pattern. That is VERY nice camo for in Pennsylvania. It blends in well and breaks up your outline.
Good Luck This Season: Buck Magnet P.S. Only Chuck Adams can sit at home and see deer so get into the woods. =;^) |
RE: Camo Clothing and scent control
camo pattern dosent matter just keep still. i buy whats on clearence each year. I also have a military chemical suit that I got for 30 bucks in woodland camo. Much cheaper than a scent lok and works as well.

RE: Camo Clothing and scent control
I would not go hunting with Scent LOc, My picture of my Bear was in there Catalog last year. My favorite camo. is ASAT, I had a suit made of ASAT with a scent Loc lining. We have a farm in Iowa, that we see hunts on, no one hunts without Scent-Loc. If there is any questions I can ans. for you E Mail me [email protected]

RE: Camo Clothing and scent control
Scent-Lok & Scent Blocker are both excellent...never go bowhunting without them. Might want to consider a oversized 3-D leafy suit to wear on the outside, tough to beat for good all-around camo. You can pick them up for under $100.

Like some of the others said Camo patterns are not as important as being quiet and still. Scent control is to your advantage also. All camo does is help to break up the human form.

Vikingvictory, ASAT is going to be your best bet from Spring gobblers right through to late season archery and if you don't want to invest in scentlok clothing, scent killer spray will miniimize your human oder. Check out www.lenartz.com and inquire about thier 3D camo in ASAT, you'll be able to slip this outfit over any style clothing from warm weather early archery to your thermals and scentlok suit.

RE: Camo Clothing and scent control
ASAT is your best bet. This in the ONLY camo pattern designed to fix the problem of being seen. Rob knows, he’s an ASAT believer. He doesn’t use all that “designer” camo, that’s nothing more than artists renderings of what they think camo should look like, not what has been proven to work through over 10,000 hours of true field testing. We like “No-Odor” scent control made by Atsko, the “Sport-wash” people, again, because it works, and then Essence of Fall by Natures Essence for a cover scent.
Send me your name and address and I'll send you a free hunting video and you'll see what I mean. I can also e-mail you some photos of how it work if you'd like. E-mail me at the below address. Thanks Chuck Pensyl ASAT Camouflage [email protected] |
RE: Camo Clothing and scent control
I like 3-D suits. They break up your outline better than regular clothing. As far as colors go, deer species see in shades of grey and yellow and they are ultraviolet sensitive, so I keep from putting to much stock in color patterns, but I do make sure I use uv killer in all my hunting clothing and I never put them on until I am out in my hunting areas. I carry them in scent free bag. If I wear something on top of my scent lok liners, I store it in pine bows. In the early archery season all I wear are two scent lok liners. When I bow hunt on the ground, I always cover my eyes with a little see through flap I have sewed on my scent lok head cover.
Scent-lok and the science behind it is sound, and I won't step in my whitetail hunting areas with out both of my liners on after I have washed and sprayed down with "vanishing hunter". Is the scent lok worth the money. YES IMO! In the past 5 years since I have started using it, I have killed at least 1 mature buck (120-140) class each year at less than 20 yards. I have seen many more including couple a big boys that I could not get a shot on and three of the harvests came from my mock scrape lines. A mature buck won't tolerate mock scrapes that smell like human odor. I also wear at least one scent lok liner and rubber boots everytime I scout and video in the off season. |
RE: Camo Clothing and scent control
I don't know how it is up there i would like some real camo all i use is army camo it works killed a deer 15yds away 19ft off the ground but then again he must have been stupid...haha...But my friend use's thoughs scent lock suits and i think they work pretty good i mean he's killed to p&y bucks with it so it can't be that bad sorry i couldn't help you hear but hope you make a good desision

RE: Camo Clothing and scent control
Bowhunter magazine did a test last year between scent blocker and scent loc and the scent blocker came out on top as far as their tests.
I just bought some this x-mas so i cant tell you if it works yet. I like predator camo fall brown and spring green, also like advantage for the late fall after leaves go down and early spring. Mossy Oal all though it looks nice to wear i believe tends to "blob" to much. Everything I've read about camo and personal experience says you need alot of light tans etc in the pattern to break up your outline more effectivley. |

I normally hunt alone, most of my friends don't hunt.
