Summit vs API?

I use and am very happy with my API Bowhunter climbers, but am curious as to why the majority of people on these boards seem to be Summit Fans. What makes Summit climbers superior to API climbers?

1 there stands are made in u.s.
2 they have great customer service
3 they stands are built like a tank
4 they are easy to climb and real comfy
5 easy to setup
6 and their stands comes with a seat of the pants safety harness
7 no pins
8 good camo choice

summit stands are the best.;)

Bobcat did a god job listing points. here is a couple more.

The ease and speed of set up
very light weight
you can readjust the cable on the platform while you are up in the tree

here are my complaints.

the powder coat finish is flaking off pretty good on the platform
my cable likes to clank when I am trying to be real quiet while packing it in[:'(]

RE: Summit vs API?

I have used the Summit Bushmaster, API Grand Slam Supreme, Lone Wolf Alpha Sit & Climb and my current climber is the Summit Viper XLS. The API was a great stand but it was much harder to set up than the Summit or the Lone Wolf for that matter. The current API stands do not appear to be of the same quality as their older stands and they have reportedly went bankrupt. Once API sold out to Outland Sports, it was downhill from then on.

In all honesty, I have little faith in a company that, in reality, no longer exists as the "force" that it once was in the industry. I had, and continue to, use my API Bowhunter on numerous occasions but once I heard that the company pretty much went belly-up I decided to go with a Summit.

I have had nothing but good experiences with my Revolution and plan on using it for the last day or our season this week.

The Revolution looks like a very comfortable stand. Are you able to easily remove the foot rest or is it welded to the climber?

I own both. I have an API Grand Slam and a Summit Viper. I gun hunt out of my API and it works great. I bowhunt out of my Summit and it works great. I doubt that I will buy another climber for a while. I am kinda set up. The pro's of the API is that it is comfortable. More so than the Summit. The pro's of the summit is that it is light and it is a little easier to set up and good for bowhunting.

I guess I don't have a favorite just as long as it works good.

Good Hunting.

Most of the reasons have been listed here for me. Bottom line Summit just makes a better stand in almost every way. When you sit in trees as long as I do you want a comfortable stable and safe one! Summit acomplishes this with ease.

Yes, you can. The folding footrest is simply attached to the upper portion of the stand via two bolts. However, if you remove the bolts then you have to reposition one of the seat straps behind one of the upper support struts. Really easy to do actually. With the footrest removed the Revolution basically turns into a Summit Cobra. Very versatile in my opinion.

RE: Summit vs API?

I have a API shooting Star and I just bought my dad a Summit Revolution. I have to say that the cable set up and the seat is better on his Summit. I think you really can't go wrong with either one. The most important thing is to get the model that fits your style of hunting. I know his revolution wouldn't be best for me because even though it is more comfortable, it is also bulkier to carry and I do a fair amount of walking with my stand on my back. I believe the Python or Viper may be better for that, however one of the two has a bar across and is made more for the gun hunter. I like to be ablt to lean over the edge of my stand and shoot down with my safety strap holing me in.

Good Luck,

Cybersniper
