Ok Gentlemen & Ladies,

Give me your thoughts on deer hunting this time of the year??

I must tell you I hunt exclusively in central Arkansas.

How should I approach that 12 point buck I've been seeing since October?
He doesn't respond to calls, but I have seen him following does, especially two, an older one & yearling!!!

daddy putt, I also hunt in Arkansas, on Belle Island, in the Mississippi River. I've had success the last couple of years during late season by finding the last couple of acorn trees that are still falling. There won't be many, but when you find one it's almost guaranteed to produce. Also, when it gets really cold the deer with start really hammering the food plots, you can set up on a trail with pretty realistic chances. The peak rut hear was around Dec. 20-28. You should start seeing signs of the second rut around the 3rd or 4th week of January. There are tons of tactics you could use, but the easiest and probably most effecitive is to wait until it gets cold and then start concentrating on finding the food.

Focus on the Food Sources. Find out what he is eating and where he is sleeping, then find the best spot to ambush. He has now reverted back to his destiny......to stay alive, eat, find protection from elements and predators, sleep, eat, stay alive for next breeding season, eat, sleep, eat......get my point. All deer have rumatoid stomachs, meaning that they have to eat every 4 hours.
