anyone hunt antlers? w/ a feed setup? after the season??

im thinking of using fishing line and corn to get some sheds, i see they make a feeder that catches them, have you done this?? i think a bunch of fishing line that can be broken if caught up but strong enough to catch them!

Ive never used fishing line but have used chicken wire and rubber bungee straps. I quit using the wire cause I was afraid one would get tangled up in it. I use rubber bungee cords or tarp straps, whatever you call them. I drive five fence posts in the ground in a w shape the stretch the bungee straps between them and pour corn under it. I actually got a couple last year with it. If they arent ready to shed the straps can still justpop off and they are free. It works OK but I didnt get as many as some people said I would, but worth the effort I guess.;)

I think Angus's idea is better. I would not want fishing line strewn all over the place, and its not good for wildlife.

I successfully use a closet pole screwed to uprights on either side of the feeder, and have placed very heavy rocks on the legs of the feeder to hold it down. Works great!

That could harm the deer and other game. I don't think thats a good idea.

HJ - I am intrigued by your concern. Please explain how a closet pole could hurt a deer? or other game? No exposed screws, smooth sanded pine closet pole mounted at a height from the feeder that a buck could not get underneath.

wouldnt u doe the thing with tehe bugee cords up under a electric feeder. but ne ways i wouldnt be able to do that b/c we have cwos in our pasture i would have to put a fence around my elec feeder and then put that over it and on my fence how big of a fence would yall build i am just gonna use wire panels that are about 3 or 3 1/2 feet tall and there is 3 big white oak trees there should i do all of them inside of the fenceso that they have to get in there to eat the acorns???

An electric feeder will scatter the corn too far, the buck needs to stick his head right down by the bungee cords close enough for his antlers to be in or under the straps. By the way, the bungee straps covered with cloth or anything, dont work as well because the antler tends to just slide out easily. The all rubber straps seemto grip the antler a little better.
