Which shaft, which broadhead.....
I bought the PSE Fire Flight 33AC and am pulling it at 60 lbs. I've heard that for every pull pound you need at least 5 grains of arrow or more. I will be hunting wild hog. Which broad head and which shaft would you recommend. If it makes any difference I will be using a release aid.

RE: Which shaft, which broadhead.....
Zak your 5 grains per pound standard is an IBO standard that is used for shooting targets. I would push that up a bit to closer to seven grains per pound of draw weight. That should give you a good "blend" of speed and weight.
The shaft question would be a personal choice issue. I have shot both aluminum and carbon. Both performed well when properly spined and tuned. I prefer carbon due to the durability aspect. In the area of Broadheads, again it is a choice issue. Penetration shouldn't be an issue with a well tuned 60 pound bow. I have killed whitetail and elk with a 60 pound bow using a three bladed broad head. I would definitely get one of the quality heads on the market. In no particular order here are some that I have had success with and thus have no problem recommending; Magnus, Montec G5, Muzzy, Rocky Mountain, and Steel Force. |
