RE: Raven Wear
thanks for the tip on the MT050 from cabela's. I will look it up.

RE: Raven Wear
Make sure you look at the "MT050 Whitetail Extreme" clothing, and not just the MT050. The MT050 is rainwear with GoreTex, the MT050 Whitetail Extreme is the super insulated stuff, also with GoreTex.

RE: Raven Wear
I saw this stuff being pushed recently on the same program with Jay greggory and checked it out.The reason is that I am a 3x tall to 4x tall. After I saw how much they wanted for it I about Sh*T.I will stick with my layers of micro fleece and polar fleece. The polar fleece and synthetic material is really quiet too.Hey Dave hows it going[X(]Bill D>

RE: Raven Wear
drstalker, buy what you want. I do not thing thats too much, depending on the material being used. Personally, I have used King of the Mountain and Sleeping Indian wool. Both are in the 600-700 range depending on what you buy. But, I'll guarentee you one thing. I will be out there in the nasty stuff when most of these guys are at camp or home watching TV.
I absolutely do not skimp on high quality clothing. I hunt a lot, here in PA, and go to Canada almost every year. I like knowing my clothes arent going to give my any problems. Double knees and butt, triple stitching all add up after a while. |
RE: Raven Wear
Since when I hunt it can snow the next day I have to be prepared with either fall camo or whites. To simplify my life and stay warm I now just use a micro-fleece base layer, a PolarTec Windbloc top layer and then I just wear a camo bug suit or winter white cover ups over the top of the whole thing. If it's going to be wet I just wear my Goretex rain suit over the top of the Polartec, then cap it with the bug suit or whites. I carry a camo hood and a white hood. All this getup easily fits in my day pack.
When capped with the bug suit or white cover up everything is nice and quiet. Basically, I probably have $500 tied up into my hunting clothes, but I have A LOT more options then spending that much on Raven Wear. I have been looking at Day One camo and it's incredibly well priced. A Windbloc insulated parka and bibs will only set you back $330 |
RE: Raven Wear
Ravenwear is some of the best clothing I have found. You guys pushing the Whitetail Extreme over Ravenwear to save money are a little off base. I own that too, and it is very good, but price wise, it is fairly similar as the Parka and bibs will cost $480. The Ravenwear bowhunters special includes jacket, bibs, vest and watch cap. Where it is a little more expensive, in my opinion, it is well worth it.

RE: Raven Wear
man, glad to see that I am not the only person who doesn't minding spending a little more on quality clothing. I was gettin hammered for a while. I did look up the cabelas extreme clothing and it too gets close to the price of the ravenware. about 250.00 for bibs and 300.00 for a jacket. it is a little cheaper. I currently wear a polyprolene long handle (50.00) for set, expedition wt longhandle 2 pairs (160.00) both pair, a set of browning fleece pants and shirt (150.00) and a scent blocker outer suit (250.00). lets see that is about 610.00 best calc. Now to me, spending 600-650.00 on a set of bibs, jacket, vest and hat isn't unreasonable. What do you guys wear when it gets cold??

RE: Raven Wear
cant beat wool for the warmth- wool pants and shirt with bibs and wool jacket--all woolrich for $200.00 Dicks sporting store closeouts... Damark underwear (2bottoms 2 tops) -$40.00-and your golden.
then you have the ability to layer as you need to. my .02 moose |
RE: Raven Wear
abh, the ravenwear with the sherpa fleece is just incredible. I got some early this year and wore it this fall in temps around mid teens to upper 20's. Had it rain and sleet on me while in the woods and stayed warm the whole time. I love what wool can do, wet or dry, but this ravenwear gear is top quality. You get what you pay for. You might also check out the insulated underwear that they sell. It is very good, as well.
