Sweet and Sour

The last couple of days where filled with delight and uncontrollable sadness
and anger.

Got to the lease about 2pm Wedensday changed and headed for the stand.
Checked the game camera and it was maxed out at 99 visits and the feeder was
all but empty so I decided not to hunt but to fill the feeder and check and
fill the other 3 feeders.

Got up about 5 am yesterday morning headed to the stand a nice brisk 20
degrees sat in the stand till lunch time without seeing a thing. Got down
went back to camp had some lunch and decided to hunt down in the bottom last night if no deer then possibly a hog.

Well I gets down there about 1:30 climbed up opened the fold up chair and
sat basking in the warm sun well it was a little to warm and I dozed off.

I hear a SNAP right behind me I open my eyes and the light is fading I look
around slowly and here comes a nice 10 point I slowly reached for the bow
and come to full draw hoping he comes to where I have a clean shot.
Well he does and stops right in the opening THWACK perfect shot just above
the heart.
He spins and runs straight back into the thickest $hit on the whole lease I
hear him crash good he has only gone about 40 yards.

Lower the bow and go get him it takes me all of 2 1/2 hours to drag that son
of a gun back the 40 yards did I say it was thick.
Gut him out and start the drag back up the hill to camp.
Once in camp I hoist him up into a tree so I can wash him out make 5 trips
back across the road to the well getting water.

I decided to spend the night cause it is late and I am totally stuffed.

Went to get the camera to take some pics but no I left it at home no
problems I will get some pics when I get back.

He had a 23" to 24" spread 8" to 9" brow tines and a perfect symetrical 4
each side rack I am guessing probably a 150 to 160 class buck.

Get up this morning about 8, pack up camp lower the deer into the back of the
truck and head home.

I pulled up in a small one horse town, I needed a cup of coffee and a hot breakfast as I have not had a coffee or a hot meal in the last couple of days.
My mistake here is where the anger and sadness come into play.

I was in the little slop joint for maybe 30 minutes at the most when I
pulled in there was no cars at all in the parking area.

From inside the joint I could not see the truck when I come out my
deer is gone.

I yelled out F*&^%$#@!&* the girl from the slop joint comes
running out to see what was going on and I tell her some low life mother
f*&^%$g son of a bitch has stolen my deer can she get the cops.

I wait for the cops to show up, they acted like I had interrupted there
dohnut time or something and where not all that interested in taking any
details.

So there went my only buck tag my first buck and no hope of ever getting it
back.
With about 2 weeks left of the season I wont be able to get back down there even if I can get a replacement tag.

Life for me really does suck at this moment in time.

End of Rant

I'm sorry man, I coudn't imagine what you are going through. Why would anyone want someone else's deer? I've never understood that.....

Guys when I seen that it was gone my heart felt like it fell out my butt.
A total empty feeling in the gut.

It is something I would not wish on my worst enemy.

I guess they took it for bragging rights as it would have probably made the P&Y book.

But how these guys can sleep at night has got me beat cause I know I wont be getting much sleep.

I honestly hope they choke on the back straps.

Aussie, I really feel for ya, man. I've had a truck stolen in Memphis, Tenn., in broad daylight off Beale Street, and this summer when we were in Silver Dollar City in Branson, Mo., someone broke into our car, hotwired it, moved it to the far end of the lot, and off-loaded all our purchases from the week along with our luggage. They even took our diaper bag and all of our newborn's stuff. Talk about low.

There's no worse feeling in the world than to have your stuff taken. I wonder if you could drive around that little town and put "wanted" posters offering a reward if it would turn up anything?

Hi Ausie-guy,

I'm saddened to hear about that. I never understood the mentality of someone that would steal another's deer?!? I agree with you and hope they choke on some part of it....any part will do. And as to bragging rights...what kind of a hollow shell of a person could have any pride in bragging about something they know they didn't take?

Makes a person understand (and wish for a resurgence of) why they use to hang horse thieves. (On this I agree with Islam...cut off the hand of the thief!)

Hope things get better for you by the holidays!

Wow...A really crappy story man. Sorry about your loss. Unfortunately, that stuff happens all the time. Not to be too critical, but what the heck were you thinking, leaving that buck in the bed of the your truck in some podunk town in the middle of nowhere. Sorry to rub salt in your wounds..........but the local trash in a lot of these places have nothing better to do with their lives. Lousy no good son of a bit#%e$. I don't know you from the carpet on my floor, but this type of crap really fires me up. Unfortunately, you'll never see that buck again, however, you have attained a new level of street smarts. Trash is trash...period, and it's everywhere. This season, the locals where I hunt decided it would be fun to put roofing nails on the access road and tear down all my stands because these guys just plain don't like me. Never mind that I never did anything to these a$$holes.............Just the fact that I'm not a local was enough to push them to that level of behavior. I'll adapt and overcome and you will too. Screw them!!! You are welcome at my campfire..............Jim

That really stinks.

I thought I had seen it all until last week, I was on a party boat and fishing was kind of slow. To make a long story short... a guy stole my buddies biggest fish right out of his bucket! We were 15 miles offshore at the time.

We recovered the fish and the dirtbag is banned from the boat.

[X(] Ausie-guy; Anyone stupid enough to pull a stunt like that is usually stupid enough to leave their trail. Ask around that small town, deer processors, local folks with small businesses, etc.. I would bet you will turn up some chatter about a big one taken locally. Just start up a conversation and say something like, "sure wished I could tag a big one this season, any of your buddies seen signs this year, mine have been all doe and immature bucks, so far"? You'd be suprised what might surface. Good luck and my sincere condolences on your busted dream.;)

Check Ebay and type Whitetail antlers into the search engine. Then you'll see why big bucks gets stolen. Cause they're worth big bucks. I've seen some huge racks go as high as $1500.[:o]

Now there are certain folks on this forum that are hostile towards folks that would go on a guided hunt. How about buying your rack then bragging about it?[:'(]
