RE: What would you have done??? Ethical or not?
I'm gonna have to go with the majority on this one. I wouldn't have tagged a turkey I couldn't bring home and eat. Hunt another day.

RE: What would you have done??? Ethical or not?
I would have taken pictures, hung up the carcass and waited for the varmit to come back.
Nothing to take home, wouldn't have tagged it. |
RE: What would you have done??? Ethical or not?
what a bummer that happened on her first kill. i know i wouldn't have tagged it. i believe the vast mahority wouldn't tag it either
don't let it bug ya, better luck next time |
RE: What would you have done??? Ethical or not?
That happens with deer here all the time. If you dont find it by nightfall chances are pretty good the 'yoteys will. If you are a meat hunter then all you hunted for is lost. Don't waste the tag, use it on something you can consume and don't look back or regret your decision. It's the right one!!!

RE: What would you have done??? Ethical or not?
After killing 2 deer on consecutive nights on different farms, I found each one of them partially eaten the following morning--the 2nd one lost the entire hindquarters. I checked in the first one . . . and the 2nd one I didn't. I figured that between the 2, I had one complete deer. I later told a game warden friend about it and he didn't have a problem with it.

First of all, big time congrats to your wife!!!.....I haven't shot one yet with the bow, but would love to. IMO, I wouldn't have tagged that turkey either....or deer for that matter. Why would you waste a tag on a half eaten animal?

RE: What would you have done??? Ethical or not?
Well congrats to your wife, I think thats one of the toughest things to get with a bow is a turkey; and I feel you did the right thing, same thing I would have done, now get back out there and tag one.............good luck.

I wouldn't have tagged it either.
If it was a deer, and I wanted to keep part of it (like the antlers), then I would tag it. When I read this post, I understood your wife to be upset at losing out on her first trophy and home-killed meal. |
RE: What would you have done??? Ethical or not?
this might be a little different not something im happy about 3 years ago i gut shot a big buck had a guy with a dog come in and look for it we jumped the deer 17 hours after i shot then he gave up i looked for that deer for a week and never found it i figured that was my buck for the year and pulled all my stands almost quit hunnting over it

RE: What would you have done??? Ethical or not?
It is a sad incident and I feel for her. I am not sure how I would handle it.
However I was unable to recover a deer that my son shot on opening day. I looked long and hard for it. ( Hardly any blood trail because of no exit, saw the flecthing still in deer when running away). He asked me if he was done hunting on that tag because of his beliefs on being a good hunter. I told him that it was permissible to continue because I failed him. |
