What is the Best Climber?
I have a ol' man climber and i am extremly happy with it. I has a relativly simple design with no extra straps to attach. I used my dads API Grand Slam and it just felt bulky walking through the woods compared to my ol' man.
Whats you guys opinion? |
RE: What is the Best Climber?
Many, many people like the summits. I have a Viper, and it is a great stand. I havn't used any other stand, so I cant compare.

RE: What is the Best Climber?
ditto on the Viper

RE: What is the Best Climber?
After 30+ years of playing monkey with gobs of stands I finally got a Viper XLS, and it is the best one so far for me. Different strokes for different folks. Sfaety is one thing I never compromise though. That's why I use the SOP harness religiously.

RE: What is the Best Climber?
My favorite stand is my BuckShot BigShot Mag.
It's heavy at 32lbs but is solid as a rock and more comfortable than my Doc's Recliner or a friend's Tree Lounge. It is rated at 375 lbs. Sag. |
RE: What is the Best Climber?
You cannot beat a summit for ease of setup, for biting the tree, for stabillity, for quiet climbin, and the biggie- for confort. the new broadhead, and bullet stands from summit fold flat like the ole man stands, and are a lot more confortable.;)

RE: What is the Best Climber?
If you don't want to slip, nothing grips like a Lone Wolf aircraft cable, reinforced Lone Wolf traction belt. Get a grip! Lone Wolf! Not as comfy as a Summit, but I won't trade.

RE: What is the Best Climber?
My son uses a Viper and I have a Goliath on the way........

RE: What is the Best Climber?
IMHO you cannot beat the Summit Viper!

RE: What is the Best Climber?
I have the Summit Cobra XLS, and at 17 pounds it is easy to get thru the woods. It is a little bulky but the light weight makes up for it. The comfort factor is unbelievable! When you can sit still and look at your watch and realize you've been there for 4 hours without moving, you know you have a great stand!

RE: What is the Best Climber?
The best? I think the most comfortable is the Tree Lounge, but it's bulky, heavy and awkward.
I have a Lone Wolf and it is the best that I have ever used. Light, quiet, easy, stable and safe. I won't trade it for anything. TBO |

I have a buckshot too...mine might be a little smaller though but still its like a rock when climbing and sitting. Bulky yes but most of the time i leave in on the tree with its locks and come back and hunt the same tree later on |
RE: What is the Best Climber?
Summit Bushmaster!!!!!!!!!!

RE: What is the Best Climber?
API bowhunter.
Small, lightweight and very comfortable. |
RE: What is the Best Climber?
I personaly am a huge fan of the Summit line of climbers. They just put everything you need in a quality climber into one package. Safe, stable, quiet, easy to setup and climb with and very comfortable.

RE: What is the Best Climber?
I have a summit and lone wolf climber. The summit stays in the shed and the lone wolf goes hunting.

RE: What is the Best Climber?
:) Thank you all for your input. Santa Jim has concluded that his son, Joe will be thwakkin from a Lonewolf next season. We ordered it over the net and with shipping it will come to $315. Next year he will be studying environmental science at Syracuse and now that he has his 1st. climber he can haul butt into the Adirondacks for weekend hunts. I suppose for his birthday in January I had better get him some topos for nearby areas. That is a lot of territory and I want him to start getting familiarized with certain portions. Thanks again for all the kind help.

RE: What is the Best Climber?
Just out of curiousity, why did you pick the Lone Wolf climber when there were so many responses on this thread that clearly pointed in the direction of the Summit line...as specifically the various Viper models?
|
RE: What is the Best Climber?
I have the Summit Cobra and I'm going to sale mine and buy a Lone Wolf. The Summit is comfortable enough but I hate the way it packs up. Also I think its a little loud. I think the rails are in the way if you try and shoot setting down and if you stand up the seat will not push back enough. Also the seat will soak up 10 gallons of water in a rain and takes forever to dry out. I just don't like it. The Summit I used last year had the paint come off so they replaced it. The one I have now has been used two times. No use in having a comfortable stand if you hate taking it hunting.

RE: What is the Best Climber?
;) I could see what the majority was pointing to. Joe has a buddy with Viper xls, he's tried it, liked it but he made the final decision after trying another buddies Lonewolf. I figured that my utmost concern was safety and knew he could hunt safely in either. Came down to his is the fanny that"l be sitting in it for many hours and that was his call. When they get to be almost 18 I usually let him do the decision making after proper guidance. JMO but I think it helps them grow up at a steady pace. One or the other I'm confident he will be etching a couple of notches in it after thwakkin a few 100 gr. 3 blade Muzzies from it up there in them Adirondacks.

RE: What is the Best Climber?
Thanks for the reply. I have no doubt that he will be happy with the Lone Wolf but was curious anyway.

RE: What is the Best Climber?
I really like my API Bowhunter as a matter of fact if anyone has one they are not using I would be interested in it. :D

RE: What is the Best Climber?
I questions those calling for Summit to be superior over all others for use etc...I've used both Summit and Ol'man....I've sold the Summit and bought an extra Ol'man.....for all usage....Ol'man is superior.....which includes climbing, quietness, packing, carrying, etc....and when I hunted with Matt/PA using his Summit....I'll still choose the Ol'man....sorry Matt.

RE: What is the Best Climber?
Bogobble, with all due respect, I know what Kybowhunter is talking about. I had a brand new Summit Cobra XLS that I ordered from a nearby sporting goods store, and got it for the same price as I could have a Bushmaster. I tried it, really liked it but debated hard whether to keep it or not. Three things made me sell it on Ebay:
(1) It was noisey hooking up and climbing with. (2) Shooting from a sitting position was going to be a little difficult with the siderails/armrests (3) I drove 60 miles to a dealer who sells Lone Wolf and the dealer showed me one and let me try it out. Lone Wolf is the quietest climber on the market. I am also in my stand to hunt..not sleep!;) This was enough to convince me the Lone Wolf was what I wanted in a climbing stand. After 10 years in a Loggy Bayou, trying out an Ol Man Vision, buying and selling a new Summit Cobra XLS, I am more than happy with my Lone Wolf.....because it fit me. Bottom line is, picking a stand is like picking a bow........different strokes for different folks! |
RE: What is the Best Climber?
1) It was noisey hooking up and climbing with. (2) Shooting from a sitting position was going to be a little difficult with the siderails/armrests but, I'm glad your happy with your lonewolfe, I guess the reason I couldn't understand why anyone would pick the lonewolf over the summit, is because comfort and light weight is a Biggie for me, because of my back problem. I hardly ever use my climber anymore because of my back. but your right- different strokes for different folks.:D |
RE: What is the Best Climber?
If the cushion were raised until they were almost as high as the side rails they wouldn't be in the way. The brochure and video both tell how to raise the cushion. I have mine at the lower postion but it doesn't get in the way of shooting my bow. I guess it's because I stand up to shoot.
I agree with Bogobble (gasp! LOL!) |
