Mandingo!!!

That's my 3year olds big "bad word."

So hunting has slowed down a lot for me. Work/school/kid/wife/dogs/etc.

I had a problem in the early season with trespassing. I found a grunt call at my stand. So I post the land (10acres) and haven't had a problem since, until last night.

I used my climber and go up about 30' to see the next ridge. I'm in there about 4:00pm. Well about 4:45pm I hear something. I look back and see this guy sneaking into my stand. (My ladder stand is on the other tree about 50yds away but I used my climber to see more area.) And he comes on in looks around and has a seat in my stand. I'm mad![:@] And I thought about slinging and arrow by him or in him. But I decided against that. So I sit there for about 15 min. Mad as hel.
My next step may upset some of ya'll. Sorry but this is what I did!
I get down and walk right by him. He doesn't move. So I go to the truck and call the law. I figure he will leave if I don't so I found his truck and used some needle nose pliers and pulled his vavle stem out of his front tire. So I know he's stuck! Then I leave. I go up the road about 3 miles and wait for the law.
The law comes by and ask's whats up. I tell them and follow them to the truck. He is still in my stand!!! The law ******s him to his truck and writes him a ticket. Ask's me if I want to press charges and I say yes. We give info to the law, then we leave.
This am I go by there and his truck is still there but he ain't. So I called to have it towed away.:D AT 9:00am this am, the towing co. called me and said as they were leaving with his truck he came by riding with another person and was raisin hel to get his car off the lift. The towing guy told him it would be $150.00 to drop the truck there or he could come get it at the garage and it would be $200.00 Well he don't have the money on him so he has to get it later for $200.00

Ticket=$200.00
Towing= $200.00
Going to court=?$

Getting revenge= PRICELESS!!;)

The guys a jerk. How can someone tresspass sit in another guys stand and then enjoy his hunt?

Was your address on the ticket, that he got? You might want to set up a video camera around the house or a trail cam if it was, you never know. He might want some pay back on your vehicle.

I think you went at it the RIGHT WAY. I guarentee that guy will never sit in your stand again! Serves him right. He knows he was doing something wrong. Good for you!!!!!

You did good. Only thing is, you might want to make sure your mail gets forwarded to your new address cause if he fights the ticket the law officer will need your testimony in court.

***Ninety-five percent of the time they just pay the ticket. Well, thats probably not correct either. Part of the time they pay the ticket, sometimes they just ignore it until it turns into a warrant for their arrest!:D

You made the right call. Nothing pisses me off more than someone hunting out of my stand. It's wrong, plain and simple. Do some people just have no etiquette?. I'm glad you bagged him for trespassing. A lot of people just can't figure out what those big yellow signs mean. He for sure will never forget. Maybe he'll let his friends know the less than positive outcome from breaking the law. If not you've at least sent the message home with him. :)

RE: Mandingo!!!

Bet He wount do that again , at least on your land .

RE: Mandingo!!!

Proper thing to do? Hmm would have probably asked him to leave in person.
I would think this would have been effective.

Turning him in...ballsy indeed, and not that you were wrong..but looking over your back, for the next year or so, don't seem worth it. He will most likely make an attempt at getting back at you. Steal your stands in the dark, poach your quality bucks, Throw human scent bombs by your stand on opening day..either way the risk may not be worth the reward of "nailing him"!

Flipout 12-12-2003 12:16 PM

RE: Mandingo!!!

Screw him. He deserves it. As some of you may have read, my buddies and I had 5 stands stolen this year and I put this guy in the same category.

You trespass, you pay the price. You hunt someone else's stand you should get a beatin'.

You did the right thing not approaching him. Let the law handle it. Last thing you need is a shoot out like the wild west. (although if you win it could be fun)

GOOD JOB!!

RE: Mandingo!!!

Bad,
I never look over my back unless I'm hunting deer.:D
If he decideds to get even for him breaking the law, I will deal with that as it manifests itself. I didn't want to confront him myself because I have a bad temper and one foul word and it would have been on. Then I could have been on the wrong side of the law.

tabby 12-12-2003 03:13 PM

RE: Mandingo!!!

Good deal. Teaches him not to trespass. Sitting in your stand. That is crap!! I would do the same thing.

I have pulled valve stems for people putting katsup on my car. Dang college kids.

RE: Mandingo!!!

Good deal. What is the law there? I have heard that if the land is not posted, then they can't be charged with tresspassing or poaching. Anybody know the specifics?

farmcntry 12-15-2003 08:21 AM

RE: Mandingo!!!

In my area if the land is not posted and you have warned them and they still trespass, then they can be charged. Also you have to have it posted at the county/town hall, signs alone does not mean it is legally "posted."
The law called me Saturday and told me I don't have to appear in court, he paid his ticket off. Also he got his truck back. (The officer said the whole time he was in the magisrates(sp?) office, his wife was raising hell.):D
