New to bowhunting..?'s
 

Im thinking of getting into bow hunting. I love hunting more then anything in the world, but right now I can only deer hunt two weeks the whole year (rifle/shotgun). If I got a bow, I would be able to hunt for three months (oct-dec). I was thinking of buying one, but then I remembered christmas was coming up.. I have a few questions because I dont know ANYTHING about bows..

What are all the types of bows and how do they work or what different features do they have?
I basically know nothing about bows, so maybe some type of summary of how they work, what types there are, and what type to get. It doesnt have to be a top of the line bow, I just need something for $250 CDN or under, doesnt matter if its used.

If you know nothing about archery equipment then the best advice any one is going to give you is visit a pro shop to make sure that you are getting what you need as well as want. The pro shop will fit you to a bow and make sure that your arrows and such are properly matched to you , your bow, and the type of hunting you are going to be doing.

Yeah.....gun hunting is fun but its nothing compared to bowhunting. The adrenilin pumps way harder! Early season is awsome! October and then being able to hunt the whole rut is unbelievable! And then there is late season! My advice.......Read the posts and the bowhunting site and the technical site and and talk your pro shop. Talk with some of the hunters at the proshop or ones you know. Buy a bow once you've got your information(1 or 2 months) and then shoot, shoot and shoot some more! When you start the proshop can really help you by explaining why they rccomend things and the important aspects of shooting.

I agree with the others but would like to add buy a used bow to begin with.

If you are strictly getting into bowhunting to extend your season and are not willing to put in countless hours of practice every week, I suggest a crossbow. Check your local regulations to ensure that you are permitted to use one in bow season. However, if you are up for the challenge and thrill, I suggest a compound.
