Uncle Ted ?

I love Ted Nugent and believe he has done nothing but absolutely positive things for the sportsman & hunter. He has his kids foundation (bought my kids some clothes when I stopped at his bow shop one time). With his name recognition he can get in front of many people, groups, legislature, etc and provide proactive input for our sport.

But when I try to watch his "Spirit of the Wild" show its just to much for me. He gets so engulfed on the animal kill with the arrow projectile into the animal flesh, etc, etc. I am also a little tired of the Bill Jordan videos; but watch them solely for the entertainment value. Am I the odd duck here and everyone things Ted's videos are normal? What's your thought? Doing a personal check.

I feel the Ted has done a lot for our sport. He just gets on my nerves when I listen to him. Not to put him down, everyone has their own opinion.

Got to agree, Ted has done alot for the sport. I love to watch and listen to Ted. The guy is WACKO! He is very interesting to me. The funny thing is that I have a buddy that acts, talks, and looks like Ted. That just blows my mind too. I could watch "spirit of the wild" all day long!

I do agree that Uncle Ted is a little wacked. But I can see how someone gets so wrapped up in the hunt. I know I do, I just dont show it as much. I love watching his show. I love his little sayings : Wack 'em & Stack 'em! . . . . . . . The power of the mighty backstraps! . . . . . .. I can smell the beast as he grows near! . . . . . I just cant get enough of my uncle Ted. I just get so into watching him hunt. And I think he is one of the greatest hunters of all time. I have never seen him make a bad shot on an animal. It makes me want to hunt with an old traditional bow that is silent and makes me want to shoot instinctivly(spelling?) But I am just too much into the new technology. And I love the speed!!

I like Ted as well. He had a young guy w/ cancer on once who had been refused a trip by Make A Wish. That guy was in heaven!! He is very positive w/ the family aspect of the outdoors. I try to do the same w/ my family as much as possible. There's nothing like watching your kids enjoy themselves in the woods trying to be like dad. Ted is just different from the mainstream, good ol' boys on the tv. I LIKE IT!

Ted has done a lot for the hunting but I agree that his show is just too much. At first I thought that it was funny but now all I hear is the same old thing.

I like watching "uncle Ted", but I especially enjoy the "queen of the forest". What a fox! It took me about 2 mos of watching before I noticed that Ted was on the show. LOL

Dudes, Ted rules. We are lucky to have such a wise, articulate, enthusiastic S.O.B on are side. If he gets excited so what, thats part of it! I'd rather watch him than that phony with the goatee and mirrored sunglasses...coming at me from "his bend in the river", yeah right.

I think Ted is an excellent spokesperson for the sport of bowhunting & that he has done so much for it, but I could not stand listening to his music & I still cannot listen to his shows.

You gotta love him! He stands up for us that don't have much of a voice in the political world. I agree his show is a little nuts, but it is by far the most unique.

He does need someone to show him how to wear a hat though. That one hat he's always wearing stick up a foot off his head....I just saw last night that he finally curled the bill!!!

I highly recommend his book, God Guns and Rock and Roll. He definently isnt afraid to express his feelings. Great book!

All I can say about Ted is "He means Well."

Yup, his book is excellent reading. I have hunted with Ted twice in Texas. Before the first time I met him I'd been told "he's a really nice guy". I figured, OK, he's got a lot of people in his face all the time, cause he's a rock star, so I took the comment to mean that he was probably polite enough, period. I was overwhelmed upon meeting him. He treated me and my family very warmly. We were invited to sit with him during dinner, and he treated our sons fantastically. He has always replied to any letters our kids have sent him with handwritten postcards, and any time I've chatted with him in the chat room on his website he always asked how the family are. He gave our guitar player son, tips, and a small but direct lecture on staying away from drugs and booze. The second time we joined him for a hunt he had just arrived and was in the lodge when I came in from hunting. You'd think I was a long lost friend with the greeting I received. The man is very passionate about what he believes in, and I can understand that he may overwhelm people with it sometimes as he does describe things with a certain gusto all of his own. However, if you ever have the chance to meet him, do. Ted is and itelligent and interesting speaker, and a ton of fun to be around. His wife Shemane is a wonderful and talented person herself. I will be joining Shemane and other ladies in May at Sunrize Acres for a Queen of the Forest event. And, I get to go boar hunting as well :).

Cheers, Tanya

Tanya...what about the fact that he hunts in fenced areas? True or False? When you hunted in Texas with him was it behind a high fence?

BenfromVa 02-07-2002 04:34 PM

RE: Uncle Ted ?

What does a "high fence" mean? In texas does a high fence built around 20,000 or 85,000 acres increase your odds of getting a nice animal? I see that half the deer in Pope& Young are taken in Texas, and the sad truth is that with good game management you need a fence, but we are also talking about ten to hundreds of thousands of acres, Big deal......

i believe in and support Ted. he james and even brings our sport into his songs.
Good point BenfromVa.

I have been a fan of Teds for more than some people have even heard of him, then when I found out much later that he was a hunter I thought we have to be related somehow. Anyway I don't think anyone can argue he is a great spokesperson for our sport. No one has a quicker tougue to defend our right to hunt. About his behavior, I just think think he is a little hard for some people to understand. We should all be so lucky to be so high on life without drugs or alcohol. Well if I had a wife like that I would be pretty high too.

Ted might come off as wacko to some, but
I cant think of anyone who does more to
promote bowhunting than him.

Tanya 02-08-2002 08:40 AM

RE: Uncle Ted ?

Yup, we hunted a 40,000 acre ranch in Texas. So what. I hunted for ibex, walked half a day in an area there were a ton of goat living. We saw sign, we smelled them, but we never saw a goat or and ibex. The ridiculous in-fighting amoungst hunters about fenced and non fenced hunts is not the issue here. I enjoy both. Ted does a tremendous amount for the sport we love. His high profile position and personality get the word that hunting is a GOOD thing out to thousands more people a year than the average citizen can. Our kids look to him as a positive role model and I believe he is as well. Ted loves life and is very outward in sharing his enjoyment of hunting and life with those who are around him or watch his show or videos. If more people displayed such enthusiasm for our sport it could only serve to help us maintain our rights and privileges as hunters.
