Nothing like sitting in a tree as sways back and forth

I'd love to hear some stand placement ideas too, as I never have any luck when the wind is blowing 15mph+

I hope to learn something on this thread. I rarely do well when the wind is blowing over 15 mph, I always try to hunt the bottoms of ravines or thickets but can't remember ever having an exceptional day in the wind.

15 plus, I get on my horse and still hunt. I don't see any sense of sitting in a tree. Deer movement is next to nothing. I think they reamain hunkered down in high winds. But, wet ground and windy you can sneak up on them. Go after some bedding areas.

I don't have much luck when it is windy. I have often had luck just before dusk on days that are wind when the wind dies down just before dark. It seems the wind keeps them bedded and they are on the move just as soon as the wind dies down.

Bedding areas in a 8' high perm. stand.

Some luck with it.

If the wind is blowing or gusting 15 mph, do what the deer do; stay in bed.

Kills have been made in high winds. However, generally your probability of success will be quite low. When a deer's senses for survival (sight, sound, smell) are greatly impacted, they will lay low.

my roommate hunted my stand where i shot my big 9 point this year. Its at the top of the mountian and its pretty windy up there. Now it was the rut and i think the bucks were out cruising for chicks that were bedded. My stand is between to bedding areas and the bucks will just run around looking for bedded does. Other than that, i hate hunting when its that windy

I prefer hunting in the wind. It help a lot for me be be quieter and less chance for me to be seen. Also if I am spotting and stalking then it is almost a must.

When it is super windy I try to hunt stands I cannot when the wind is light. The stands are in bottoms where a light wind will swirl and kill ya, but a hard wind will remain on course.

The deer will have to feed eventually and they will seek places that they can use their senses to the fullest and stay out of the wind as much as poss.
