Important Game Cam Information!

People are always posting questions about Game Cam's of all different models and brands, and rating them as well. There is 1 problem that runs between every model I've ever seen: They are all easy targets for thieves!
Someone posted this in response to my post about having my game camera stolen. I think this is such a great idea that it should be placed as a main post for people to see. The person who came up with the idea has recovered 2 game camera's or the same camera 2 times, I can't remember which. This is the idea (it won't prevent theft but it will help recovery):

Take the first shot on your game cam, before you set it out, of a piece of paper that says in big, readable letters: If this film is being developed by any other person other than INSERT YOUR NAME HERE then please call INSERT YOUR PHONE NUMBER HERE because this camera has been stolen.

One of the times the guy who had this idea had his camera stolen he got a call from Wal-Mart a few days later. He went up and explained the whole situation to the manager and got full cooperation. Had all the address info from the person that turned in the film and everything. But the guy came back to get them himself and he succesfuly recovered the cam.

What an ackward moment that had to have been for the person who stole... personaly I would have invited the cops to the little party! [>:]

P.S. I'd love to see some posts about someone recovering a camera in this way if it works for anyone! That would be cool![8D]

if i ever get enough spare cash for one, i will for sure use this method. Theft is a BIG problem where i hunt, lots of ATV traffic so anything that is worth anything and isnt impossible to take off, wont be there when u go back. Even lock on stands get stolen. We also had a tv antenna strapped to a tree for a ladder for a lock on, walked out only to find someone had taken my antenna and ratchet straps and left my stand hanging. THe main thing stopping me from gettin a game cam is theft right now.

Great idea. Do the Wallmart employees look at the pics? or do they just see the first?

Ya know I've thought about and from what I can remember they look at them to find out at least if they're flawed. Like I've had them give me a pack and tell me that some of them basicaly didn't turn out or were real bad but they included them anway... I never thought anything of it. You'd have to think they get glimpses of them...

Theres supposed to be a new digital game cam out that you have to have a code to access any pics stored in the camera. Then there is detailed instructions with an 800 number inside to call if you have trouble with your camera. The instructions are to fool the theif into calling to see about getting the camera fixed cause it wot work. The the company runs the number inside the camera and if the caller isnt the owner, the owner is notified with the name of the person who called about the camera. It may work, Im sure it is simpler than I made it sound, I havent got a lot of info yet, but I bet its expensive.

Ya, they look at ALL the pictures. I had a bunch of Mardi Gras pictures developed at Walmart, and after reviewing them, they only gave me back the ones they thought were appropriate. But I got the negatives back and had them developed elsewhere.

Hey Hazcon, can you post some of those Mardi Gras Pictures? ;)

That is a great idea. How would you hold the info in the picture? I've never used a game cam but am about to buy one for my dad for Christmas.
