Oval or Circular Cam?

I'm back - thanks for the space.

Alright - I'm looking at a bow and now a bud throws into the mix "go with oval"

What are your preferences and the pro's and con's about oval versus circular cams.

Thanks

I like the round wheel, but most guys think I'm wierd.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

The oval will give you more speed and energy per pound of draw weight, but they are harder to draw. They come up to peak weight quicker and hold peak weight longer before dropping into the valley.

Round wheels shoot slower, but they are easier to draw Because they come up to weight slower and drop off faster, and they are generally quieter shooting than ovals. In my opinion, they are also easier to tune and keep tuned.

Then comes the single cam. It has similar draw characteristis and speed to the oval, but is usually as quiet as the round wheel bow.

Arthur,

You are leaving out those nasty hatchet cams. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

....which draw more harshly than a single cam, round wheel, or soft cam (oval cam) and are generally louder than the others, but which are also faster.

My opinion...go with the Oval cam. It is a good compromise between the slower round wheel and the harsher-drawing hatchet cam.

Ofcourse, the single cam would get my vote above the others but that wasn't one of your options...<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>:)
