Binocular Poll...What kind do you use?

Alirght guys I' m taking a poll on the types of binoculars most used in the field. I will start first with Nikon 9x.

I' m interested in this as well. I have been using a little pair of 8x21 Bushnells that suck. The small objective lets in no light. I am looking at a pair of Nikon Monarch ATB 10x42' s that are really nice and in my price range. That would really make looking through the brush easier, especially early and late.

Cabelas Alaskan Guide 10 by 42, they are great glass, and let in a lot of light towards the end of the day, when it is hard to see!

RE: Binocular Poll...What kind do you use?

Swarovski SLC 10x42. They are hard to beat for resolution and low light performance. I think I am getting some Pentax 9x32 mid-size for Christmas:) If going with a roof prism design, make sure you look at a pair with phase corrected optics to get a really sharp image. The quality of glass does make a big difference. When you go out west where optics are really used a lot, everyone I have ran across has been using swarovski or leica.

Nikon Monarch ATB 8x42...I think they are fantastic! Great low light binocs and very good resolution.

I' ve got several, but the ones I use the most are my Bushnell PowerView (or maybe it' s PowerFocus?) 12x50 I think. They' re pretty cheap, but they work nicely when they' re mounted on my tripod. Last year javelina hunting I picked up a bedded coyote at over a mile away.

After spending years, and not so much money, for Bushnell, Simmons, etc. I finally broke down a couple years ago and got Swarovski 8X30. Will never use Japanese glass again. But then I won' t have to.

Pentax DCF WP 10x42s. I got them this spring for the same price as the Nikons since Pentax was coming out with the " SP" s and these were on " make room" shelf.

Cabela' s Alaskan Guide 10 x 42' s. Excellent quality
at a reasonable price.

That said, they don' t work quite as well in extreme
low light as my older Nikon Monarch ATB 8 x 40' s.
I needed the 10 x 42' s for hunting out west as
trying to find a coues deer on a rock mountain
was just about impossible[:@], but for hunting
here in the midwest...tough to beat a quality 7x
or 8x;).

RE: Binocular Poll...What kind do you use?

I have the nikon monarchs and love em. great low light capability. could see thru binocs when could see with naked eye. mine are the 10x42' s. only one pitfall and that is the lens caps are not user friendly, a one piece for the small end and single caps for the big end. Does anyone know where I can get better protection for my binoc' s. I would like a neoprene slip cover of some kind as to keep the debree out of the lens. any help appreciated.

I use a cheap pair of bushnells. Since I bow hunt in thick cover, it is all i need and if lose or break them they are cheap to replace.

Swift Audubons in 8.5x44 porro prism. Super clear, very W-I-D-E field of view, now water proof. Rival the expensive Leicas, Swaros, and Zeiss at about a third of the price.

I use a pair of Leupold Wind River Cascade 8x42.

Wish I could afford a pair of Swarovski, but oh well, I can still see out of mine.

Brunton Eterna 10x42 great optics for fair price. I have had mine for two seasons now and makes the judgement call on the big boys easier. Very easy to guestimate the score on the big boys.

With so many companies nowadays , everyone has their favorites . I went a looked thru about 30 pairs last year and the best bang for the buck in my opinion was wind river olimpics , everyone who trys them agrees , at around $275 they are allmost but not quiet as good as swearofskys at $1500

RE: Binocular Poll...What kind do you use?

Matt,

I still can't believe those DCF-SP's. Ever since I saw them at Cabelas, well, my own vision (without bino's) looks crappy :):):) It is weird looking through a pair of bino's and wishing that you had that vision without binos. I can't wait till the spring, when I am gonna get a pair of them, and my Legends will be handed down to my girlfriend.

Like I have said before, anybody looking for high quality binos, check out the Pentax DCF-SP binos. Matt told me about them and after checking them out besides Kahles, Swarovski, Steiners, Leupolds, ect.... these things just blow them away. Check them out, you will not be disappointed, ask Matt :)
