RE: Deer spooked after gun hunt ??
I' ve shot a deer each year the past two years after the gun season. In the zone I hunt in MN the gun season is two days, break, then four days. I shot a nice mature 8, rutting, on Thanksgiving day two years ago. I seem to see a lot of deer after the gun season, some years more than I saw before.

RE: Deer spooked after gun hunt ??
I think a lot of it has to do with hunting pressure. If they have been seriously run for 2 weeks, it will take some time to calm down. I try to wait 2-3 weeks after gun is over (which in MO. takes me to the first or second weekend in Dec.).
Also, a tactic I might try this year is Conservation Areas. They are bow-only and if the deer have been run in the surrounding areas, I would think they might try to get into the CA for refuge. I might do a 1 day scout/hunt with my climber and see what happens! Hopefully I can get a storm front to roll through just before I go...that might help me out! |

It has everything to do with the pressure. They are going to be around someplace. If it is your property, then you are lucky. Deer still have to eat and bed and move from one to the other. And they don' t do it all at night. Things get quiet here for about two weeks after the doe-days are done. The deer get pushed pretty hard from all sides. But I can agree with BobCo19-65 because once the pressure is off, they go back to being deer. They are more jumpy and tough to get close to but they don' t dissappear. You just have to work harder!

RE: Deer spooked after gun hunt ??
In the past, I' ve definitely seen fewer deer from the 3rd and final week(this weekend) of our gun season through the end of archery season which is in the 1st week in January. That' s not to say I don' t see deer, but I do see fewer and the bucks seem to disappear. Last year I never did see a buck after the rifle season ended. I did see lots of does though. It' s definitley a different ball game hunting the last season as opposed to the early season.
