follow-up on wounded deer

posted last week about hitting a buck at dusk, then losing the trail after several hours of tracking due to heavy rain and fog. took friday off to resume the search. sure enough, i found this six-pointer bedded down about 50 yards from my last tracking marker. the arrow entered at just behind the left shoulder, through the left lung, and out the right shoulder, fracturing the right humerus (the off side). g5 montec fixed cut-contact bh' s (for those who were wondering if this was the result of mechanical bh).

dressed the animal, took it for processing. they said they would skin it, but in all liklihood the meat would be spoiled. keeping the rack (albeit small, it is my first buck with the bow) as a reminder of things i' ve learned:

1. i need to take changing weather conditions (especially at dusk) into account before releasing the shot.
2. i can' t take a shot (even the most perfect setup) if other obligations interfere with my ability to recover the deer.
3. i need to continue practicing through the season. this has proven difficult as days have become shorter but i' m already thinking about reconfiguring the spotlights outside, or joining a local indoor shooting club.

i appreciate all the feedback/advice from fellow hunters on this board. shoot straight.
