Twice in 14 yrs and I did my best to find them. It' s the worst feeling in the world to me.I still will only shoot about 25yds because that is what I practice at home. Plus I don' t bowhunt as hard as some. This weekend starts our gun season and I' ve done my scouting so to speak.[:D) So I scout with a bow and I got a nice doe for my effort. :)

almost lost an 8 pt this year, thanks to the guys on this site, they kept me going, found my deer 4 days later, i don' t know if you count this as a lost deer or not,
i got another cape and am getting him mounted. i do know one thing, it is a feeling that i don' t want to feel again.

Happened to me last year, still don' t feel real good about it, but i know the deer is dead now because we found it but it shouldn' t of had to suffer. Hope i don' t do that again, and ill never shoot them while trotting or jogging, etc., again.

How about the years hunting Buck magnet? How long is your career? Something tells me I' ve been hunting longer then you' ve been alive.

Let' s see I' ve shot and killed with the Gun and bow around 100 deer and lost 2.

Not a bad % wouldn' t you say?

Buckmagnet, You are proably a nice enough guy, but I have to be honest sometimes you get under my skin. Just being honest. You try and come across like the next Myles Keller.

I know why should I care? Proably shouldn' t. So I' ll stop throwing jabs your way. You have a nice day.

Hey Charlie,

Hey, I am no Myles Keller, and no, I havn' t been hunting as long as you. I am entirely honest on these boards. I have made my mistakes in the past, just like you, and I have done everything in my power to make those mistakes disappear, just like you. I have had to learn pretty much everything I know about archery hunting by myself. My grandfather and my dad both hunted archery, but, they stopped before I ever started. I have done everything by myself, well, with my bestfriend. He is in the same situation except that nobody in his family hunts or ever hunted archery. When I first started, I was making too many mistakes that I couldn' t even get close to deer with my bow, then the time came where I could get close to the deer, but, I wasn' t ready for it. That is where my two wounded deer came from. Now, I am practicing much more self control, which came from time and these learning experiences. I have become " picky" with my shots. I think that it is something that everybody goes through.

I am not claiming to be perfect, and I am not claiming that I know everything about the sport. I just say what happens to me, simple as that. Some people like that, some don' t.

I have absolutely nothing against you at all, but, I won' t sit back and let little pop shots be taken at me without the whole story being said. I have nothing to hide on here, nothing to proove, all I do is talk about hunting.

This post has just inspired me to think of a new topic......

Hey BM...good post about your learning curve, everyone learns from their mistakes.

I think what Charlie P was posting about is you taking a pop at him....he' s lost 2 in 28 years and you make a comment about how you have the same number. (I have seen the banter between you two in other posts as well). 2 in 28 is not comparable to 2 in 3 or however long you' ve been hunting with a bow.

Good Luck...

This post amazes me. I usually lose 1 a year. Now you can all lambaste me for my lack of ethics, but maybe the deer here in N Minnesota are tougher, I don' t know.

Secondly, " the anti' s are gonna get us for this post." Hogwash! I usually wound 1 or more with a vehicle a year too, and I don' t see anyone trying to take my car away. (although I usually recover most of these, how many motorists do you think recover them, not many!)

Those of you who " wound 2 in 23 years" and feel bad about it are either full of **** or in a league of your own. I get sick of all the ethics crap on hear, I am ethical, but I also tell the truth. I will also put my tracking ability against anyones on this board, so don' t tell me the crap about spending more time to find them. The only thing I will admit is that my shot selection when I was younger was very poor. As I have made better choices I wound much less, but it still happens! Live with it.

I shot a 7 pointer about this time last year with my bow setup he jumped a hair of a second before I hit the release but brain couldn' t stop the shot. Caught the deer in his right hind leg. Muzzy 3 blade cut artery and the buck ran off and of course it was just at dusk. My partner and I hunted all night following the blood trails til it ran dry. We did a grid search, shoulder to shoulder, walked in circles we did everything that we knew to do and still couldn' t find the buck. It made me really sick at heart that I had wounded an animal and could not finish the job. My partner doing a preseason scout this past August found the 7 pointer about 200 yds below my stand in a clump of black berry bushes right on the edge of a creek bank. I still feel really bad about not finding him that night but I do take solace that he did go down within a reasonable distance and from the position of the skeleton which ironically had not even been disturbed by coyotes it appears that the buck just simply ran out of fluid in his radiator and laid down. Long and short of it is that I learned a very hard lesson from that and it is a mistake that I do my very best not to make ever again.

RE: Just out of curiousity how many of you have ..... ?

Just so you guys know, I have been hunting for 8 years, 5 with bow. I have killed a total of around 15 deer or so.

Like I said, I am not perfect, but, I will not apologize for these mistakes. Yes, I feel bad about them, but, I learned from them and I have moved on.

Just so everyone knows, I have no problem with CharlieP here. He has his opinion and I have mine. Personally, I would be willing to bet that he is a great guy, and the reason he ribs me is the reason I have got ribbed before, they want to help me learn. Anytime he was ever in PA and wanted to hunt, my land would be open!
