Proof that a whitetail can survive with one lung
All bowhunters should check out this post[:o]. These
are some very unique pictures. It is amazing to see how the broadhead and arrow shaft has fused to the bone...inside the chest cavity! The top picture also gives a great view of the bone structure of a whitetails chest and spine. The " void area" , between the top of the ribs and the spine, is much smaller than one might think. After seeing these pics...we all need to be careful when field dressing;). http://www.iowawhitetail.com/ubbthre...b=5&o=&fpart=1 Two Beards |

That is incredible man! How in the heck did that buck survive the shot, then heal up enough to make it through the winter? I have never seen such a thing. That broadhead is well into the chest cavity and yet the deer survived! Amazing.

RE: Proof that a whitetail can survive with one lung
The buck I shot this year had one of its lungs healed to the inside of its chest cavity. It was freaky when I pulled everything out and only 1 lung came. THe other was a weird texture and darker, and I had to peel it from the inside of the rib cage.

Wow, that was interesting indeed! Hard to believe the deer survived that.

Yes give the deer a once over before digging in. I once had a puss ball on the side of one during rifle season only to find a broadhead few weeks old inside the deer. Puss ball was a warning marking.

I can believe it.
My buddy that hit the huge 10 pointer on opening day has seen this deer in field on several occasions and even got him on video this last weekend. He could see the wound on the deer side...both sides. ANd he still can' t believe he is not dead. |
RE: Proof that a whitetail can survive with one lung
wow..., that was really interesting how an arrow can get fused to bone like that

Great post! I can not believe that this deer survived with that arrow in him. You would think he would cut his insides everytime he moved around. That could have been a real bad deal if he tried to gut that deer!
