help me out with wind direction........ a little confuse
Well this is probably a stupid question, but I have to ask. I was sitting in my stand yesterday thinking about all the posts and everything else I read about wind. I' m set up on the edge of a field about 30 yards or so from some known deer runs. When they come out of or head into these runs, won' t they have the tendency to walk into the wind?? If that' s the case, in theory I should be set up where my scent is blowing into them as well. I know that that' s not what you' re supposed to do, but it seems as if they would come out and walk away from me instead of towards me if I was set up so they wouldn' t smell me. Just been bothering me lately. What do you think?

RE: help me out with wind direction........ a little confuse
IMO they will not have a tendency to walk into the wind unless they think something is up. They will go where they want to go irregardless of wind direction up to the point they feel like something is wrong. At that point they will check the air for danger smells and if need be get downwind of where they think the problem is to check it out.

Depends on the side of the field you are on. If it' s the west side, sounds like a better night hunt spot to me - deer will be coming from their bedding areas to the field - their feeding areas. You will be downwind for this it sounds like. If it' s the morning hunt, the deer will already be downwind coming from feeding to bedding areas - not that great unless you have an east wind. The opposite would apply if the stand were on the east side of the field. Lot' s of variables that I' m not sure of here, but don' t count on deer traveling into the wind. I know that' s what they say deer do, but I' ve watched them for years do whatever they want regardless of wind direction. And don' t forget about the rut. They could be anywhere you wouldn' t think they' d be this time of year.
