Packed and ready to go... look out NY!!
All ready to go. Got to stop at the bank and pick up some money... that' s about it. Leaving bright(well dark) and early in the AM for 3 days of NY bowhunting. Last night I talked to one of the locals in NY that bow hunts the same public land I do. He said it' s been a tough hunt for him this year. He says there' s plenty of sign and he sees some deer but the bucks are playing hard to get or even see. He usually has tagged out by the time I get there. He hasn' t shot " A" deer this year. He says there are 3 or 4 cars parked and hunting the woods every day. Sounds like I' ll have to go deep. Same story every year.[:' (] I hate climbing that damn mountain to get away from the crowd. At least when I get there I never see another soul. They all seem to stop within 200-300 yards from the road. I' m getting to old for that dang hill. It beats me up every year. At leaste it' s mostly downhill if you shoot a deer.[:-] But that last 150 yards is uphill, what a bummer.

Good luck Dave,
I' m in central Ny and looked out my window this morning to see the tops of trees touching the ground. I' m staying in bed.My wife woke up at about 7:00 this morning in a panic she thought i was dead. Strange sight me still being in bed at 7:00. |

RE: Packed and ready to go... look out NY!!
I' ll be hunting North of Bainbridge, NE of Binghamton, near the little burgs of Gilford and Coventryville. If it' s blowing that hard I' ll just go in and maybe hang a hang on and find a couple trees for my climber. Hunt from the ground if I have to. It should lie low near dark. Saturday looks great. Snow I can live with.

RE: Packed and ready to go... look out NY!!
I wish you luck David...though knowing your past experiences, you may not need it. :) I have a question for you though, you hunted Maryland yesterday and you are hunting New York tomorrow, do you ever hunt PA?

RE: Packed and ready to go... look out NY!!
Well its at least good to know you' ll still be far away from my stomping grounds. I' d hate to endure the horror of those blue long johns in my neck of the woods. It would surely haunt me for years to come. ;) Seriously Dave, good luck.

PA... I hunted PA a couple years ago when I won a trip to bowhunt with old Katina. Saw some deer, passed on a few and my tags are still hanging above the work bench. I also hunted Indiana and Ohio that year. My last night in Ohio I passed on 3 bucks at under 15 yards and those tags are also on the wall. My last hunt in Indiana I MISSED. Don' t ask me how. This bad boy was standing broadside at 33 yards looking at me. He had my breath pegged but I was at full draw. He stopped right in a hole. I said if the arrow gets through there he' s dead. Well, when he left the arrow was sticking into the side hill he was against right in the middle of the hole. I figure he was a ghost and it just passed through his image. We know I wouldn' t miss.[:o][:' (];)
P.S. I' m waiting about 3 years for this QDM you guys got going on up there to allow some big boys to grow, then I' ll come and whack a couple.[:-] |

RE: Packed and ready to go... look out NY!!
I have a couple holes in a cedar swamp I can ride out the wind. I also have a couple old stone walls by some apple trees I can hide behind.[:-] The local boy tells me there are lots of apples around there this year. I know a few hidden away apple trees no one ever gets to. Something will work out or I' m a failure.

RE: Packed and ready to go... look out NY!!
David,
When the time comes and you want to give it a try up this way then you are more than welcome to come out with me a day or two. You would have to put up with some other hunters though as I pretty much only hunt public land. :) |
