Another Hunter in MY HONEY HOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey guys,
I went out hunting this afternoon to my " infamous" honey hole. As most of you guys know, this property is only open to hunting for my best friend, my family, and I. Well, at 4:30, I see movement on the other side of the woods (there is a field that is owned by a HUGE anti-hunter that I have mentioned several times). Well, I pull up my bino' s and there is a guy carrying a bow and wearing camo. Well, he is walking in the field right on the edge of woods. First off, he is tresspassing on the anti-hunters property. Well, he gets into the woods and I keep watching. He walks up to a tree and I see that there is a climber attached to it. He is now on the property I hunt, but, probablly about 5 feet from the property border of the anti-hunter. Well, it gets dark a little after 5:00 so, he pretty much came through the woods at prime movement time. Well, I slowly and quietly climbed out of my ladder stand and slowly backed out of the area. The whole time I am watching him with my bino' s and he never saw me. He was facing the other way (so, if he had a shot in front of him, he would be shooting deer on the anti-hunters property. I just talked to the owner of the property I hunt a few days ago and he never mentioned any other people hunting there. Now, the question........ should I report this guy? should I take his climber since he is tresspassing on two different pieces of property just to get into the woods and he leaves it on the trees? What should I do? The guy is obviously a complete moron. He tresspass' s to get to " his" spot and then he leaves his stand on a tree when he leaves. What would you guys do????????? |
RE: Another Hunter in MY HONEY HOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
It' s simple. If he doesn' t have permission to hunt on that piece of property he just doen' t belong there. As far as him tresspassing on the anti' s property...that' s his situation to deal with. I wouldn' t take the stand unless you are certain that the landowner knows of your actions and condones it...The big problem though if you take the stand.....You are really no better than him because now you are a thief. Jason.
Firstly I would double check to see if he in fact does not have permission. Once I found out he is tresspassing and poaching I would take the climber and call the local game warden to come pick up the climber. Leave a note on the tree his climber is in saying " Your climber can be claimed from the Game Warden" with the wardens phone number. Just make sure the warden knows he is doing things illegally so when he comes to claim his climber he will also be given a ticket. Or if you want to play it safe get the game warden to remove his climber but that could mess up your honey hole. |
RE: Another Hunter in MY HONEY HOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Put a sign on the tree giving him notice or call the game warden.

Jimimac,
Tommorow I plan on talking to the landowner about the situation. I really dont need or want another climber, my SUMMIT is ALL I NEED (Hey Will, e-mail me and I will give you my address so you can send me a free Revolution for pluggin your products :D) I was planning on just giving the stand to the landowner and let him figure out what to do with it. He doesn' t hunt, so, I am not sure what he would do with it. I might ask the landowner if he wants me to take the stand down, give it to him, and leave a note on the tree telling the guy that if he wants his stand, to go to the landowners house to get it back. It just amazes me how ignorant some people can be. He doesn' t have permission to hunt the land, so, he shouldn' t be hunting there. Simple as that.[:@] |
RE: Another Hunter in MY HONEY HOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would have went and talked to him and told him to get the hell out. Two years ago, I was walking to MY stand in MY woods, only to find another hunter sitting in it. Needless to say I was pissed, and told him to get the hell out.

RE: Another Hunter in MY HONEY HOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you sure he doesn' t have permission from the anti-hunter?
I know of several people around here who don' t believe in hunting, but allow their family permission to hunt. As for your property, he can' t hunt that, and you can post it and keep him off it. But you better make sure you know everything before making assumptions. |
RE: Another Hunter in MY HONEY HOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
The landowner of my honeyhole has asked me repeatedly (most recently this past Sunday) to remove and/or destroy ANY treestand I find on his property--except mine. I would never steal one, so I just " move" it--but it may be hard to find.;)

RE: Another Hunter in MY HONEY HOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
That happened to me once on my aunt' s property. I was the only person allowed to hunt there and I found a guy hunting my treestand.
I had just crossed a river via kayak (to enter the back and quiet way) and had nearly fell in the river, got soaking wet, ruined my cellphone, and it was damn cold. So by the time I found the guy I was pretty upset. Since I wasn' t going to hunt there for a while again anyhow I screamed at him from across the woods. " HEY WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HUNTING ON PRIVATE PROPERTY WITHOUT PERMISSION?" He was embarrassed as hell and left shaking never to return (to my knowledge.) |
