Last time you missed????

I know this question is risky as things could get deep in here, BUT when was the last time you missed? Anyone on a pretty good streak? Just bored at work and curious.

RE: Last time you missed????

I' m in a slump, thus the name I picked.

Missed two times this year at fifteen yards - same deer. And not to brag, but I' m not a badshot. Just an idiot.

A six was under me in which I was drawn on for 5-10 seconds before I shot trying to pick the best spot as he had his head down and quartering away. I over-thought the shot losing focus, shot at the whole deer, and shot under him. Sucks. Part of hunting though.

[:' (]Ugh - just missed a doe this past saturday. 1st miss w/ bow in 4 years. I have thought about that shot over and over again. Right over her back.

Honestly its been about 5 or 6 years. BUT, I' ve probably only taken 10-12 shots in those years, approx. 2 shots per year, and they have all been pretty easy shots, within 20yds. I rarely miss, but have been known to make bad shots that I wished I would have missed.

I take that back, how could I forget, I missed a nice buck last year, I made up for it that same afternoon with a nice 8pt. Before then, 5-6 years.

RE: Last time you missed????

My last miss was fortunate. I shot at a deer that was nearly under my stand and I rushed the shot. The deer behind it walked right behind it and stopped to smell the feathers on the arrow and gave me a perfect opportunity to make a nice hit. I was able to watch him walk away and lay down while the one I missed and two others that appeared on the scene walked around below me. The two arrows that I shot were not even 10 yards from my stand and about three feet apart. One was clean and the other one had a curve to it and covered in blood. The little buck that came walking in from behind me smelled the feathers on the bloody arrow and jumped back and ran a couple of yards and then walked around.

Yesterday. Missed the first shot, and the second shot was in the leg. Meat' s in the fridge, but I would much prefer a good double boiler.

Last Wednesday...

He is a 10 or a 12 point, large body deer (I try not to count points until after the shot). The shot was only 12 yards [:' (]. The arrow dinged the infamous unseen branch and it was a clean miss. He hit the deck after the shot, rolled completely over, then got up and took off like I' ve never seen a deer go before. I saw him again yesterday afternoon but he was too far away to take a shot... ;)

RE: Last time you missed????

I missed opening weekend on a doe. Miss judged the yardage, but followed up on one of the other ones with it and got it. So I redeemed myself pretty quickly. A clean miss is always better than a hit and not find. That happened to me this year too. Hit her good I though just a little high. I guess it was the dreaded " hollow spot"

Well....this year has been horrible.

Connected at 40yrds on opening day, and haven' t connected since. Missed twice since then. Needing a range finder.......ASAP.

I missed last Sunday afternoon. That infamous unseen branch that Quack Addict mentioned got me for a clean miss. The shot was only 20 yards and the deer was a management deer with a very small rack and broken leg. I regret the miss because the deer may not make it, but would rather save the tag for a shot at a big one later.

Missed a trotting yote at 40 yards last week. If you mean deer that would have been last year. Kisser came off and I didn' t realize it. Nice big buck at 27 yards and I shot 2-3 inches over his back[:@] Haven' t seen that particular buck yet this year. Maybe someone got him last season.

saturday morning 900a on the button, nice 6 point, most likely a 1 1/2 deer, as he had the same rack as my buck last year (Also 1 1/2 and a 6pt). Oh well [:' (]

So far I' m 100% :D 1 shot, 1 kill.
However, when you' ve only taken 1 shot at a deer, it isn' t anything to brag about.
I' ll miss some day.

I never miss. ;)

Just kidding ofcourse. :) Actually the last time I missed a deer was the end of the first week of our archery season this year. I forgot what distance I had ranged a particular spot for and a deer walked right into that area. The distance was 22 yards but I shot it at 30 and the arrow went right over the animal' s back.

There is always tomorrow...:)

I have missed 2 times in the past month and I got second chances on these deer. But I blame the misses on operator malfunction. I just need to practice more with my bow. But that is what makes it so great. Bow hunting is a challenge. Bow hunting gives me the biggest rush. I hope you all experience this.
good luck

Last Monday, 7 am, a six ptr, at 16 yards. From the ground, I made bad release, maybe due to heavier jacket, or nerves, Arrow made funny noise upon shooting and fishtailed low under belly. Buck ran away, snorting for five minutes!

Wow, I don' t feel so bad about myself now! haha.

I missed a nice 8 point this past Saturday morning. 18 yards quartering away and I shot right over his back. Not sure how, but it was a clean miss and he just stood there after the shot! Didn' t move an inch! Unfortunately I couldn' t get another arrow out of my quiver in time for another shot before he walked into some brush and eventuallty out of range.

Ah well, there' s alawys next time.

RE: Last time you missed????

The last time I had a clean miss because of a bad aim was 1986. That was my first shot ever at a deer(To date it is the dumbest shot i ever took.) But I have to admit all my shots have been pretty close and nothing terrible difficult since then. The last time I missed due to interference was 3 yrs ago. Getting dark, and that darn limb blended right in.[:@]

Now i have to go find the biggest piece of wood i can find and knock on it for an hour or two.;)

RE: Last time you missed????

I did see the big bruiser I missed for a third time yesterday afternoon, so maybe I still have the chance to redeem myself before Saturday' s firearm opener. He was 50 yards out this time and chasing a large doe with twins from this spring. It was kind of cool - the doe walked up to a hedge row and poked her nose inside - then froze for over half a minute with one leg still in the air. All of a sudden, she turned 180 degrees and bounded off full bore - followed IMMEDIATELY by the buck in question. I wonder if / how long he had been laying there...[&:]

RE: Last time you missed????

After getting my new bow this spring and now shooting a release, I was ready. After only 4 shots at deer, I had 4 deer in the freezer--including a buck I was after. And I got a little too cocky . . . [:o][:' (] I was at full draw for over 2 minutes on a monster last Friday morning and was already composing the story in my mind for the messageboard, when I saw an opening and released the arrow . . . I overestimated the amount of clearance I had between two branches and managed to bounced the arrow off one of them missing him clean.

I' ve been beating myself up over it countless times every single day since.[:' (][X(]

I had one sail in mid October. Was hunting over a field by my grandmothers and had 3 yearling come out and there were heading for the garden. The deer were pretty small (That' s my excuse, small target) and I misjudged the distance. Sent my arrow about 3 inchs over her back. It' s too bad. My lips were watering thinking about her tender meat.:(

RE: Last time you missed????

What a dumb thread! Why would you make me re-live this stuff? Actually it' s good to read that the guys shooting the sights miss sometimes also. I was on a 9 yr. streak until 10/8/03 when I flat out missed a doe at 7 yds. with my longbow. I recovered in time to miss a doe at 17yds. two weeks later. Finally the week of the 27th I dropped an 8 pt. and a doe within two days of each other and watched them both drop. I find missing sorts makes a person realize that you can let up on your practicing and concentration.

I missed a monster non-typ a couple weeks ago at 25 yards, but that was only because I hit 3 twigs and the arrow literally bounced off his back with just a flesh wound.

My bow hunting career is off to a good start ...shot a total of 3 arrows while hunting (this year and last year) and retreived 3 deer. I' m interested to see how long I can keep this up.

Two saturdays ago, Had 3 does walk up and stop within 10 yards of my stand. Watched them for a few minutes then a nice 8 pointer walked in at 25 yards. At full draw and pin placed right were I wanted it, I let the arrow go. WHAT !!!! oh wait, darn it, i hit the smallest of branches about 15 feet from him and the arrow skipped over his back.

The does didnt even move when he took off through a thicket.

I have 1 miss it was on a doe 7 years ago, although I had about 5 years I could' t seem to find time to hunt. I' m not that great of a shot or anything I just don' t take a shot unless it' s a sure thing.

Well I missed two this year, and killed one. I missed a really easy shot on a horse of a doe opening day of muzzle loader. I was bow hunting and miss judged the yardage. Broadside at 29 yards, I thought she was 33 yards[:@][:' (]

Nov 7, 1997

I was watching a deer come up my scent trail, sitting on the ground about 10 yards behind a bale. Posotive it was a doe (pretty dark). When it dissapeared behind the bale I was just pumped to be able to see a deer that close. What emerged first from behind the bale was a very large rack. In my haste to draw, he busted me [:o] He ran, stopped. I noticed that that the fibre on my pin had broken off, but still had enough to shoot. Shot away! Deer away!. Forgot that I had my sight at 30, over his back. Plenty of excuses, none really valid. Just messed up. Have not shot since, until this year. I miss no more :D
