RE: Are any of you still hunting with bow successfully
I'll hopefully be back out in a month in a half or so after caribou. The sun is starting to stay up longer, but it isn't getting any warmer outside. Maybe early March I'll make a run down and see if I can't get on a late season bou.

Hey, Dutch. Still/ground hunting is all I did last year. The closest I came was ten yard from three deer. Unfortunately for me, I didn't realize I was that close 'till I heard the infamous wheeze and saw the even more infamous flag bolting away. If you're serious about trying it, there're some books written about it. Still hunter's bible or something like that. I think it's by G. Fred Asbell, but not sure about that either. One tip I've picked up from other people would be; if there's traffic nearby (I'd a US route running closeby) make your noise when the cars go by. That'll mask your noise. You definitely have to be more conscience of movement, scent, and the noise you make. I hope I'm not telling you stuff you already know; and sure hope I don't sound like Mr. Native American <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Take care and God bless. Brandan |

Dutch, my best 2 bucks came from the ground. I have taken several deer from the ground, but I hunt mostly from stands. I do more ground hunting in late season than early season due to the foliage being all gone.

I've taken several deer while still hunting.

Hunt from ground only and have been successful over the years. The habitat determines whether still hunting, spot and stalk or stand hunting is used. I prefer still hunting and choose where I hunt based on that.

I've arrowed quite a few from the ground. It's a great way to hunt during the rut. Deer are moving like crazy and the bucks are more careless. I love to ground hunt the rut when it's wet. Makes for quiet walking.

It really gets your heart pounding when your eye level with them. I will hunt from the gound during snow or a good rain instead of using my climber.

Stillhunting is my favorite way to hunt wary eastern whitetails. I definitely spook more deer than if I would keep my butt planted still, but I see more also. Things really get exciting when you spot a deer ahead of you and your hunt turns into a stalk. I manage to take deer every year by stillhunting with stickbows.
