RE: the meat
It's always about the same thing in this type of question, isn't it? Does the size of an animals antlers change and/or influence your normal set of ethics? I'd like to think I treat every deer with the same amount of respect, be it a doe or buck. I'm neither a "horn" hunter, or strictly a meat hunter, but if an animals life is worth taking, I'll do all I can to insure the meat does not go to waste.

RE: the meat
Those antlers will last longer than the meat! I've recovered deer after a night in the 60's. The meat was fine, it's the gutting of that bloated animal that's the difficult!!!

you nailed it perfect lochorns.

RE: the meat
Yep, you said it lochorns. If all you are in it for is the antlers, then you shouldn't be hunting.
Good Luck This Season: Buck Magnet P.S. Only Chuck Adams can sit at home and see deer so get into the woods. =;^) |
RE: the meat
My first concern would be the meat I would have to try to recover the deer the same as I would if it were just a doe. I once used a trappers boat and the butt of my unloaded shotgun as an oar to retrieve a doe I had shot that busted through some ice while trying to escape accross a frozen channel. It took me 3 hrs to retrieve that 100 lb. doe and I'd do it again today if I had to. I believe if your going to pull the trigger you better be ready to do what ever it takes to recover the animal or stay on the porch with the pups.

RE: the meat
I agree it had more to do wtih your worldclass, buck of a lifetime, maybe world record statement! It shouldnt matter how big or small it is, it matters more where you hit it and what kind of situation you are in, be it the big woods, residentail, weather...stuff to that effect, not rack size!
