Anyone see the report last nite on the growing deer population? AND THE DANGER THEY POSE TO DRIVERS ON THE HIGHWAYS? Complete with footage of cars avoiding and/or hitting deer and everything. The statement was there is too large a deer population on the east coast. Cost in damage to vechicles and people in the billions.
What to do? 8 foot high fences along the highway work very well but are expensive. Longer deer seasons and larger bag limits are TOO CONTROVERSIAL!! Anyone else see it?

Yep, they had that on the news last night here in Columbus Ohio too!
Whats ironic about it is, this year the ODNR is only giving us 2 tags as opposed to the 3 last year!
And, one of my teachers hit a doe on the way to school yesterday. Ill post about that insident in the Deerhunting forum here in a min.

No I didn' t see it, wish i had though. If they were to put up 8 ft fences I wonder how that would go into play with " fair chase" . Wonder how P&Y and B&C would handel that? It would be a violation of their rules, wouldn' t it?????

Why don' t they just build some overpasses that the animals can use instead of thousands of miles of fence??
I think they already do it on the other side of the pond............beautiful, landscaped and VERY large. I am sure it would take a little while for the wildlife to get used to it but once they figured out it was a safe way to cross the highway you can bet they will use it.
(Atlasman begins to plot how he will go about obtaining permission to place a few stands on these funnels....cough cough.......I mean overpasses
)
Seriously though it has to be cheaper then billions to fix cars and bury people.

i saw that report. i live about 20 mile west of columbus in madison county. all farm land. deer everywhere. but here is the catch............ alot of people wont let you hunt their land. also the city of columbus keeps buying up land for " metro parks" that arent even in the same county out here. deer thrive in these areas and can not be hunted. you know the tree huggers need to see the wild life i guess. i counted 38 does in one field next to praire oaks metro park in eastern madison county near the franklin county line( columbus) a major highway runs thew here (route 70 ) and this park is on both sides of the highway. at least 3 to 4 new deer kills on this stretch of road the last 2 days. thats evrey day not combined i mean 6 to 8 deer killed in 2 days. over populated you bet. controled hunt? never will happen.
