help on a new bow
 

Hi guys I' m new to the fourm I have to say this place is great. anyway I need some advice on a new bow. I' m shotting an old Golden Eagle predator. Its about 12-13 years old so i guess its time for a new one. I' m looking to spend 400-500 . What are some of the better bows in that price range?Also,any input on aroows and broad heads would be appriciated. Thanks

if you want to get name brand stuff but only used one year at half the price try ebay i got a 2002 hoyt for 300 bucks and had it rigged for less than 400 so you can see the stuff i got from below

Thanks 6pt for the idea.I' ve been out of the loop for so long as far as shopping for a new bow I dont know whats out there as far as quality. any other suggestions as far as bows and equipment?

That brand new hoyt ultramag is in your price range. Try shooting one of them. Looks to be an awesome bow for the money. Arrows I perfer gold tips. As for broadheads I use slick trick 100 grain heads.

HOYT and MATHEWS and BOWTECH ALL TOP QUALITY BOWS I shoot muzzy 100 but would like to try different brands this summer to see what i like best but i love that the fact of HOYT HAVING 100% liftime guarentee

Be careful on buying a used Hoyt. As I understand it, the warrantee only applies if you purchase the bow from a Hoyt dealer. I could have saved $75 on the exact same new bow I bought by using Ebay, but that guarantee makes me sleep better for the investment that I' ve got in it. I' m bad on names, but PSE has a nice bow in the $400 range. Just go shoot every darn bow you could possible afford and buy the one that feels right.

There are alot of good bows in that price range. If you shop around you can probably pickup a good deal on a 03' bow since the 04' models are starting to hit the shelves. PSE, Hoyt, Mathews, Bowtech, Parker, Darton ... just too many to mention. Best advice anyone could give is to go to a shop and shoot as many as you can. We could all recommend a bow but that doesn' t mean it' ll be ideal for you.

Thanks all for the input. I will go and shoot some diffrent bows.I need a whole new set up. including sights. Ive never used them before I have always been an instintive shooter but i think I need help I miss way more than I care to admit.I think that has alot to with the fact that I get real nervous and jerky when I have a deer in range. :D If I ever lose that feeling I will quit hunting.

Is that $400-$500 for just the bow or the bow with accessories? If it is the former then you definitely have a huge selection. Only the " top of the line" bows from some manufacturers will be out of your price range. If it is the latter then there still is quite a few bows to choose from though you might have to be somewhat careful on what accessories you buy as some of them can be quite expensive.

Most manufacturers offer bows in the $200-$300 price range. Plan on spending at least $50 for new arrows which you are probably going to need for a new bow and at least $100 for new accessories. That would put you right in the price range you mentioned.

You will be hard pressed to find a new bow today, that isn' t a good bow. I really don' t know a single manufacturer that is putting out a poor product. You can get lots of personal preference recommendations on these forums, but you will be the only one who can determine what you like.

It' s a good time to visit some bow shops and ask about demo models and end-of-year model closeouts. You should be able to get a good bow at a big discount if you' ll take an ' 03 model. This way, you still get a warranty with the bow, and can afford a slightly better bow for your money.
